Stacey Happenings FCCLA’s Final Project
By: Jazzlyn Littleton, Junior
For the final service project of the school year, FCCLA visited the Battered Women’s Shelter on Wednesday, April 24. The students had an amazing time throwing a party and celebrating the birthdays of some of the children staying there. Everyone at the shelter split up into different groups and had their own stations. Some people were handing out food, some were painting people’s faces, and others played with the kids and mingled with the mothers. Nataliana Hernandez helped make maracas out of plastic Easter eggs, plastic spoons, popcorn kernels, and tape. “It was a great experience seeing the kids having fun and spending time with them making crafts,” she says. Marisa Arteaga said, “Going to the Battered Women’s Shelter was an amazing experience. It made me realize how much I need to just get out and spend time with others, and volunteer more.” It’s sad so say that this was the last service project of the year but it was fun making memories with friends and getting more involved in our community.
Spring Senior Night
The 6th grade technology class was able to meet David Monroe, inventor and holder of 53 patents including the cell phone camera and video conferencing technology as well as being the founder of the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT). The students were also treated to several musical numbers created by pressure waves generated by tesla coils that electrified the air enough that florescent light bulbs glowed in their hands.
High School Stuco: Resolve to Rise By Aubri San Nicolas, senior
On April 13th-15th, Stacey High School’s Student Council earned the opportunity to attend TASCs annual state conference in Arlington. This year’s theme was “Resolve to Rise”. “Resolve to Rise” was aimed to give students the courage to find innovative ways to improve their school’s community, as well as find ways to strategically solve problems that may arise within their school. At the annual conference, students learned how to become better leaders for their school and community through team exercises and table talks. 12 Stacey Stuco members, chaperoned by Dr. Medellin and Mrs. Cervantes, went on this trip. Along the way, they became better friends through intense road games, student council chants, and dance parties during the general session. As our students experienced the annual state conference, their desire and drive to create and become a greater and grander student council flourished.
Elementary Happenings The beat goes on in SFA producing super readers! Great job teachers!
Crazy 8’s Club
This year we started a new Crazy 8’s Club. When we met after school, we raced cars and got ahead with multiples of 8. We also built 3-D shapes with glow sticks and Styrofoam balls. In addition, we created patterns with special red and white cubes. All in all, there was never a dull moment in the club, and we always had things to take home to keep the math fun rolling!
