ESSER III Stakeholder Survey

Today is the last day to provide input for the ESSER III Stakeholder Survey. Lackland ISD will apply for a grant from the Texas Education Agency based on funds they received from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER III). The total amount of funding that Lackland ISD is eligible for is $637,837.00. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will release 2/3 of these funds ($427,350.00) after we complete the required application and submit a “Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan”. The additional 1/3 of the funds are scheduled for release at a later date once the TEA receives approval from the federal granting agency. Our plan must include stakeholder input on how we expect to safely return students to school and provide instructional continuity, and a plan on how these funds should be utilized.

The survey can be found at the following link:

IPad Pick Up Reminder

iPads will be collected from students on the afternoon of the last day of school for students (May 26) near the Stacey Cafeteria for ALL students.  We are collecting these devices late this year so that any remote students can use it to connect to your class through the very last session.

Students will be provided – via mail – a 2-gallon Ziploc bag, one for EACH student.  These bags will be labeled with the student’s information, so we’ll be expecting to get back ONE bag for EACH student.  We are asking parents  NOT to commingle multiple students’ equipment and accessories in a single bag. We appreciate your cooperation.

Stacey Happenings

Seniors and English 2 students have been working for the last four weeks on their research skills, in-text citations and crafting thesis statements. They then used those skills to pick a topic of their choice to research and present their findings into a creative presentation.  Topics range from mental health issues, LBBTQ+ concerns, to climate change and use of experimental weapons in the military and many more topics.  As you can tell, we have a very diverse group and I can’t wait to see all the presentation over the next two weeks!

*All presentations were over Teams meeting and students at home could share their screen during their presentations.

Jaylen White volunteered to be first this week.  Now he gets to just sit back and enjoy his classmates hard work.

10th Grader Esmeralda Montalvo

Senior Andrew Duchmare

10th grader Caden Miner

Michael Hornsby competed at the UIL State golf tournament on May 17th & 18th. He is the first golfer from Stacey to qualify for the state tournament in golf and he represented the school well. Although the season didn’t end the way we had hoped, Michael finished tied for 30th out of 72 golfers at the tournament. Michael is a senior and has been part of the golf team for 4 years so what an exciting way to finish off his high school golf career!! Good luck going forward Michael and thank you for all your hard work.

Nineteen plant lovers signed up to participate in Stacey StuCo’s Green Thumb Challenge.  Peyton Bedtke inched out all the other entries with a plant that grew to almost 5 inches!  Congrats, Peyton, on your Green Thumb!

Community service projects

Who says 6th grade boys can’t embroider! This student made 5 projects!

Last week, Stacey Student Council members went on a short trip to the Base Defense Operations Center to show support for National Police Week.  Student Council members made a poster, then had students sign it to show their support. The Security Forces members were also gifted cookies in a show of the school’s appreciation for them. Thank you to the 802nd Security Forces Squadron for keeping our school and base community safe!

Mrs. Duron's students whip up savory dishes!

Stacey yearbooks are currently being distributed! Students that pre-ordered a book can pick up their copy in Mr. Keller’s room (4614). A limited number of extra copies for available for sale. You can buy in person (cash/check) or you can order with a  credit card online:  https://lacklandisd.revtrak.net/

Plants use the sun's energy to produce their own food.  This process is called photosynthesis.  Chlorophyll, the pigment that makes plants green, absorbs sunlight, which gives the plant the energy it needs to take water from the soil and carbon dioxide from the air to make sugar--the plant's food.  During this process, the plant gives off oxygen, which is what humans need to breathe.  Be kind to our natural world!  We depend on it for our daily lives!!

Dinosaurs walked across the Oklahoma region more than 200 million years ago, leaving footprints that are preserved as fossils.  Elaborate carvings on canyon walls along the Cimarron River were made by Native Americans more than 10,000 years ago.  In the late 1800s, white settlers began to flood into the state.   Despite this land rush, today Oklahoma has the highest Native American population of any state.

Oklahoma is a major producer of oil and natural gas.  The state's factories turn out machinery, plastics, and other products.  Farms grow wheat, cotton, and other products.  Beef cattle, raised on large ranches are the most important farm product.

Dear Parents and Guardians of current Sixth Graders,

In order to comply with Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements, all students entering Seventh Grade are required to have the following immunizations:

1 dose of Tetanus, Diptheria and acellular pertussis (Tdap) if at least 5 years have passed since the last dose of tetanus-containing vaccine.

1 dose of Quadrivalent Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV4 or MenACWY) on or after 10th birthday

Often, a child has received immunizations and we do not have a copy of their most updated immunization record.  The record on file for your child does not indicate the two vaccines above.

If your child has an updated immunization record, you may submit it directly to the e-mails listed below.

If your child will be attending Lackland ISD during the 2021 - 2022 school year, you may have them vaccinated at your earliest convenience now,  and bring or send proof before the end of this school year so we can update our records.

Students without proper documentation or a valid exemption will not be allowed in class on the first day of school August 16, 2021 until we receive updated immunizations.

If you have any questions, please call us at (210) 357-5040.

Thank you for your support,

Elementary Happenings

Thank you to the guest readers who came to read to our first graders!!

Third graders in Mrs. Gaskin's class learned about how heating and cooling worked by making a liquid rainbow. The solid crayons became a liquid and dripped down the paper. As the liquid crayons cooled, they became a solid again. This activity was an example of reversible change, since the melting was reversed once the crayons had a chance to cool.

Students in Mrs. Guerrero’s class were super excited to have Dr. Roper as their guest reader. They loved the stories he shared and wrote him thank you letters.

Students in Mrs. Guerrero’s class going on scavenger hunts using their five senses to review Language Arts, Science, & Math skills they learned this year. They did so well  & had a great time!

Fourth Graders bouncing and sliding into summer!

A huge shout out to Mrs. Villanueva-Delaney and all the volunteers  for the Fun Friday Celebration!
