Texas Youth Helpline Information

“The Texas Youth Helpline provides free and confidential services to youth, their parents, and other family members of youth in crisis who need help finding a counselor, safe shelter, legal information, and other local referral information, or just someone to talk to.”

Representatives can be contacted by phone, text, or chat and those calling are not required to share their name or address.  The Helpline is NOT a reporting hotline and they are not associated with law enforcement or Child Protective Services.

Trained staff are there to listen and not judge.  They can help brainstorm solutions and , if needed, connect you with resources that can help you take the next step.  Most of the services they give are low or no cost services.

LISTENING — HELPING TO COPE

We will listen without judgement. Many of our operators have been through similar situations and can relate.

BRAINSTORMING SOLUTIONS — ACTION PLANNING

We can talk with you about your issue, discuss your choices, and help you develop a plan of action.

LOW OR NO COST COUNSELORS AND OTHER COMMUNITY RESOURCES

We can give you information for shelters, confidential pregnancy information, or other community services. Our database has more than 2,000 listings of services throughout Texas.

FREE MESSAGING SERVICE FOR RUNAWAY YOUTH

For 30 years, we have offered a free message service so runaways can communicate with their parents or guardians if they don't want to talk with them directly. All calls are strictly confidential. Our goal is to promote communication between runaways and their families.

FREE RIDES HOME FOR RUNAWAY YOUTH

We can put youth in contact with "Operation Home Free," a free transportation service that gives youth a free ride if they have run away and are trying to get back home to a parent or guardian.

Proclamation from the Mayor

Stacey Happenings

Dear Parents and Guardians of current Sixth Graders,

In order to comply with Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements, all students entering Seventh Grade are required to have the following immunizations:

1 dose of Tetanus, Diptheria and acellular pertussis (Tdap) if at least 5 years have passed since the last dose of tetanus-containing vaccine.

1 dose of Quadrivalent Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV4 or MenACWY) on or after 10th birthday

Often, a child has received immunizations and we do not have a copy of their most updated immunization record.  The record on file for your child does not indicate the two vaccines above.

If your child has an updated immunization record, you may submit it directly to the e-mails listed below.

If your child will be attending Lackland ISD during the 2021 - 2022 school year, you may have them vaccinated at your earliest convenience now,  and bring or send proof before the end of this school year so we can update our records.

Students without proper documentation or a valid exemption will not be allowed in class on the first day of school August 16, 2021 until we receive updated immunizations.

If you have any questions, please call us at (210) 357-5040.

This past Thursday, Stacey’s S2S Club hosted Chalk It Up! The goal being to bring everyone together and to have some fun. Students, family members, friends, and staff members worked in twenty-four small groups to draw beautiful artwork on the school’s walkways. There was a variety of art created ranging from abstract, colorful, seasonally themed, to Purple-up inspired, and video game related.

The Club’s members worked hard as well serving drinks and snacks to the artists. As many people participated in this event, they enjoyed the sounds of their favorite songs and the time they spent with their groups. At the end of the event, many participants were rewarded with a goodie bag full of fiesta themed items and gummies.

s2s and js2s would like to thank everyone who came and participated in Chalk It Up. All the artwork looked amazing so we left the judging up to the Military Child Education Coalition. The top two winners had a one point difference with group #10 coming in second. The artists on that team were Madisyn Pennington, Raelyn Jacobson, Emily East, and Mia Fersted. Their drawing depicted an umbrella, with a rainbow, sun, and a cloud. The quote was "The greater your storm, the brighter your rainbow.” The winning team was #22 with Faith Martini and her mom who drew the Butterfly and the #Military Brat. Congratulations to these two groups!

North Dakota was one of the last regions of the American frontier to be settled.  Even today, it has a small population.  Still, North Dakota is a major farming state.  Its economy relies more heavily on farming than any other state except South Dakota.  More than half the people in North Dakota live in rural areas, and the state has more farm workers than any other state.

Lackland ISD Proposes to Adopt New PK Curriculum

This year, school districts across Texas are participating in adopting a pre-kindergarten curriculum that aligns with the Texas Pre-kindergarten Guidelines.  Our Pre-Kindergarten team has been hard at work examining various resources that are state-approved for our consideration.  After months of reviewing and deliberating available options, we have decided to propose adopting Frog Street PreK 2020 as our new curriculum resource.   Lackland ISD is currently using an older adoption of the Frog Street PK curriculum.  Teachers feel that the additional resources and revisions in the 2020 version will provide even greater support to our students.  We will present the proposed adoption to our Board of Trustees on April 27, 2021, at our regular Board Meeting.  We invite you to preview the curriculum contents using the links below and contact Dr. Tonya Hyde at hyde.t@lacklandisd.net if you have any questions.

Elementary Robotics Competition Works Out

Last week, the elementary FIRST Lego League Robotics Club had their local competition, and things were quite different compared to previous years, because of Covid. This year the competition was partially online and partially in person, when typically, everything is in person. The judging of their project and robot design was done virtually last Thursday afternoon, and the robot challenge mission competition was in person on Saturday in Kerrville. The theme this year was "RePlay" and centered around trying to get people to be more active. Our students showcased their own unique "Field Day" design for their project to the judges, and did a great job presenting how they designed and coded their robot to make him perform the mission tasks. At the in person robot competition, their robot performed well, successfully completing most of the tasks they coded, but just not all in the same round unfortunately. We won't know our final scores until next week, but most importantly, the students had fun and learned a lot.

Mrs. Crawford’s class reviewing Food Webs with a lockbox challenge! Everyone completed the challenge 😊
