National Volunteer Week is celebrated annually during the third week of April and this year it will be observed from April 21 to 27. This week-long celebration is about placing a spotlight on inspiring figures whose invaluable seeds of kindness through volunteering are bettering the community and our world in general. This significant celebration which was established in 1974 provides the perfect opportunity to say thank you. It also challenges us to do better and look for ways to be active participants, joining hands to impact our local communities and calling for more support.
The power to transform lives and our world, in general, is visible at every turn, and the National Volunteer Week raises awareness about the need to beef up volunteer efforts, and preaches the gratifying sense of fulfillment derived through acts of volunteerism. The word ‘Volunteer,’ derived from the late 16th-century French ‘volontaire,’ meaning ‘voluntary,’ was associated with the military: “one who offers himself for military service.” In the 1630s it began to transcend beyond the non-military sense.
Thank you to our amazing volunteers at LISD!! |

| Imagine a day dedicated to the superheroes behind the scenes, the ones who keep the gears of our workplaces turning smoothly. We’re talking about National Administrative Professionals Day! It’s like a big “thank you” party held every year. This special day falls on the Wednesday of the last full week of April, which in 2024 is April 24th.
National Administrative Professionals Day is like a high-five for the office heroes who keep everything running smoothly.
Mark your calendars! This special day happens on the Wednesday of the last full week in April. It’s a day packed with gratitude, where we cheer for those who tackle the tasks we often overlook.
Why do we celebrate? These professionals are the backbone of every office. They handle calls, manage schedules, and ensure everything is in its right place.
This day shines a light on their crucial role. It’s our way of saying, “We see you, and we appreciate you.” Their hard work keeps our work lives balanced and organized.
The tradition began back in 1952, aiming to recognize the silent warriors of the workspace. It has grown to include all administrative roles beyond just secretaries.
This day encourages us to acknowledge their immense contribution. Let’s make sure they feel valued and respected on April 24th. It’s a small gesture for their year-round dedication. |

On Saturday April 13, a group of 12 students and 1 teacher volunteered at Charming Pet Rescue. They performed odd jobs and manual labor such as scooping, bagging, and replacing mulch. Still, after the labor was over, they enjoyed some quality time with the pups that freely roamed the shelter, as well as the designated cat house where all cats and kittens resided. Along with the volunteering, a bake sale was held that raised close to $200 in donations for the shelter. It was an overall great experience in volunteering and was rewarding to see the outcome of such hard work.
