SAN ANTONIO — A Lackland ISD Sophomore is leading the way with her infectious enthusiasm and dedication to others.

If you’re a new student at Lackland ISD’s Virginia Allred Stacey Jr/Sr High School, Simone Sheehan will greet you at the door.

“I like to make other people happy and to be happy myself,” said Simone.

The Stacey Eagle is the leader of the student welcome committee on campus, something Simone said is important to make new students feel at home.

“Whenever someone brings you and welcomes you, you feel like you have a friend there, and having a friend really helps to just be in a new place,” said Simone.

Simone has been attending Stacey Jr/Sr High School since the 7th grade when Band and Choir Teacher Kathy Brock first met her.

“She’s the kind of student teachers dream about,” said Brock.  “She’s hardworking, she’s dedicated.  She helps other students.”

Simone takes her robust enthusiasm into everything she does whether that’s Volleyball, The Art Club, or Band.

“I like making music.  I really love French horn,” said Simone.  “Music in general makes me happy because you can dance to it, you can sing to it.”

Leaders at Stacey Jr/Sr High School also take note of Simone’s joyous passion she dedicates to everything she does.

“Simone's just truly outstanding in every way, she always is not afraid to step up and help somebody out in any situation. And being that our campus has lots of students that come and go on a regular basis, she's very welcoming to just anyone that comes on the campus,” said Hunter Shelby, Principal.

Those are just a few of the reasons why Simone Sheehan is a KENS 5 All-Star Student.

Regina Espree with the UPS Store presented Simone with the All-Star Award.

Shelby said that Simone proudly represents her school with her outstanding work ethic and character.

“She’s made a definite, huge impact on our campus,” said Shelby.

Welcome Mrs. Ladino!

Sierra Ladino is a new teacher at Stacey.  Her classroom is in the 4600 bldg. and she teaches AVID to 6th, 7th & 8th as well as several high school students.

What inspires you to teach?

The love of learning and discovery.  There are so many problems and mysteries out there, and we need to prepare students to help solve them.

What’s the best thing about being a teacher?

“Aha!” moments.  Watching something “click” in a person’s head for the first time is so cool!

What would students be surprised to find out about you?

Some of them already know, but many may be surprised that my family is a military family, too.  We even live on base.

Was becoming a teacher your first choice?

I was very indecisive career-wise, but I’ve always wanted to be involved in education in some way.  My first boss out of college encouraged me to get my teaching license, and that was that.

What has been the biggest challenge in your teaching career?

Adapting.  This is my third school and third curriculum in three years, which takes a lot of adjusting.  Combined with COVID and the personal challenges that life in a military family brings, there is always some new curveball.

How long have you been teaching?

This is my third year.

Where did you go to college and what did you study?

I earned my BA in History at College of Charleston and my MAT in Secondary Social Studies at The Citadel.

Where did you grow up?

I spent most of my childhood in the Upstate of South Carolina before moving to Charleston for college.  I lived there until last spring, when my husband, children, and I moved here to Lackland.

Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by?

“What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us.”

What is one word to describe yourself?

Determined

THANK YOU Mrs. Ladino!

Imposter

The girl goes through many obstacles and struggles trying to find clues leading to the murder but things take an extreme turn and she finds out more than she could handle.

There are many brilliant students and teachers from Stacey that are actors in the film; Aaliyah Kirton- Ellie, Sandra Williams- Bea, Alexandria Ho- Myra, Mia Flores- jogger, Gabrielle McCaslin- Sam, Emma Adams- Isabella, Ms. Gray- principal, Ms. Prescher- Ms. Mirabell, and Mr. Richard- father. Be sure to congratulate Kendall on her hard work and wish her good luck for the competition.

Mrs. Chan’s 6th graders had the unique opportunity of meeting Jasmine Warga, author of their class novel Other Words for Home, through Teams. Ms. Warga spoke briefly about herself, her career, and her upcoming novel before taking questions from students. Ten students asked her a range of questions, which elicited insightful, and sometimes inspirational, responses from Ms. Warga. When asked to close the meeting with some final words for the 6th graders, Ms. Warga told them to stay strong and keep their heads up throughout these trying times. She told them to remain hopeful for the future and ended with a quote from her novel: “Hoping, I’m starting to think, might be the bravest thing a person can do.”

Recently our Family and Community Service class orchestrated a shoebox drive to collect quality items for children in need. In partnership with Operation Christmas Child, we helped collect toys, personal care items, school supplies, and more to bring hope and love to children around the world. For many, this shoebox will be the only gift they get this year, so it was crucial that we contributed in this cause to provide them with essential items they need. Our original goal was to collect 100 boxes for this organization, but we have gone above and beyond with collecting 121 boxes! Your contribution and efforts will bring joy to many children this holiday season of which they will feel the love and happiness you all put into these boxes. Many of the boxes came with tracking labels, so we will be able to see where our boxes end up around the world! We are so proud that Lackland ISD came together to help contribute in our school wide service projects, and we couldn’t thank you enough for your support! Awesome job everyone!!

More than 100 billion aluminum cans are made each year, which means about 274 million are stamped out each day!!!  Thanks to the recycling effort, about 40 percent of an average can is made of recycled aluminum.  Recycling a can takes 95 percent LESS energy, creates 95 percent FEWER emissions, and produces 97 percent LESS water pollution that making a new metal can from aluminum ore.  Americans recycle 52% of all their aluminum cans, or about 141 million cans every day.

Students in grades 6-12 will take semester exams December 16th - 18th. We will run a modified schedule seen below. Students who are distance learning should plan to take exams online at the scheduled time for each class.
