Last week Stacey S2S and Js2s went to Willie Cortez to celebrate with the seniors for the Willie Cortez Center’s 10th birthday. They assisted the seniors by bringing food plates and drinks to their tables and aided the staff in any other way needed. After lunch, s2s members and participated in a dance party full of conga lines, clapping, and line dances while at the same time, putting smiles on the seniors' faces. Seniors were asked to get up to dance and have a good time with the students, in which many did. Hailey Barentine, a member of S2S, and her peers sang happy birthday to members of the senior home. After singing, an icebreaker game - four corners - was played and more dancing followed. The celebration was full of laughs, smiles, and lots of advice from the seniors. S2S always cherishes the time they get to spend at Willie Cortez and with the seniors there. S2S is looking forward to the next time they go back again!
Exploring Careers
In the 8th grade exploring careers class, students are learning about the 16 career clusters. The mini project for the Architect and Construction cluster was putting together a wooden toy clock. A big shout out to Home Depot who donated the kits. Students really enjoyed the hands on project and learned if building is something they might have an interest in. The class decided to donate their clocks to children who can use them as a learning tool.

Senior Spotlight: Isabella Evans by: Kelsey Traxler When did you come to Stacey? 2017
Where did you move here from? Brunssum, Netherlands.
How does Stacey compare to the other schools you have gone to? Stacey is a little bit bigger than my old school.
Do you enjoy the small school setting of Stacey? For some things yes, but I miss having more class selections.
How did your time overseas influence your childhood? It really shaped a lot of the values I have today and my overall attitude towards life.
What clubs and sports are you a part of here at school? Cross country, Debate team, S2S, President of Student Council.
What advice do you have for the younger students at Stacey? I would say to take every opportunity you can to get involved with things because one of the better things at this school is that you can get involved with a lot of different things. I’d take every opportunity given to experience everything you can.
How do you balance the homework and college applications of your senior year? I normally try to get my homework done during the week as soon as I get it so that on the weekends I can devote at least one day to revising and working on college applications and essays.
What are your plans after graduation? I plan to go to college to study psychology and minor in Italian.
What will you miss most about high school? I’ll miss the stability because when moving around, school has been the only constant.
Welcome to Stacey! Lauren Billingsley by: Miranda Lincoln, freshman
Mrs. Billingsley is the new Instructional Technologist for Stacey Jr/Sr High. Not a lot of people know what her backstory is or what brought her to Stacey. Luckily, I was able to get to know more about Mrs. Billingsley and understand her a little better. 1. What drew you to Lackland ISD? While I am a civilian, I’ve always had close ties to the military. I went to school in Killeen ISD which serves the learners living on Fort Hood, my brother is a Green Beret in the Army, my best friend of 20 plus years was (and still is) a military dependent and my father-in-law is an Air Force veteran which means my husband attended Lackland ISD! The military affected are near-and-dear to my heart and I wanted an opportunity to give back.
2 . Where are you from? I am always proud to say that I am from the Dallas/Fort Worth area!
3. What is something that you are looking forward to for your first year at Stacey? Connecting to the culture and community of the school. I to see how supportive and welcoming the staff and learners are to everyone and I hope to become a part of carrying that forward.
4. What school/ university did you study at or attend? I received my B.S. in Mathematics from UTSA and last year I graduated with my M.S. in Learning Technologies from the University of North Texas.
5. Did you always want to be someone who worked for technology? If not, what did you want to do instead? I didn’t figure out what I really wanted to do with my life until I was well into my mid-20s so I would have to say that’s a big fat no. There’s a lot of pressure to know what you want to be when you grow up, but it took me trying out a LOT of different things until I found what my purpose was.
6. What is the name of one or two songs that could always keep you productive? Silhouettes by Colony House Ready Receipts by Kyle Thornton & The Company
7. Have you always been a tech-savvy person or did it come up along the way? I honestly wouldn’t even say I’m particularly tech-savvy; at least no more than average. What I attribute any tech skills to is curiosity, perseverance, and a desire to problem-solve. I’ve simply found the ability and passion to demonstrate those life-principles through technology.
8. What is your least favorite part about tech? It’s hard to answer because our expectations of technology are growing higher and higher. We have to remember that it’s electricity flying through plastic and doing a thousand things in an instant which is pretty amazing! I guess I’d have to say my least favorite part is that I have to “check myself” when I get frustrated because the magic doesn’t work right all the time - and I can’t expect it to.
9. What quote inspires you the most every day? If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. -Maya Angelou
10. What is your favorite holiday? Lame answer buuuuut CHRISTMAS
