On April 4th each year, National School Librarian Day recognizes the professionals who keep the school library in working order. School librarians spend long hours keeping the library organized. They are also dedicated to helping our children find the resources they need to keep learning. School librarians are the people who create an environment where students can learn every day of the year. Their work is an impressive accomplishment.
The school librarians provide guidance and expose our youth not only to texts, print media, and literature but to digital resources and technology, too. These resources also connect them to libraries around the world. A school librarian's ability to manage scores of media and a school full of students with numerous projects and schedules astounds us. Remember the school librarian on this day. Take a little gift or a card and tell them “Thank You!" |

Paraprofessional Appreciation Day is a special day dedicated to those who work in a classroom under a teacher’s direction. A paraprofessional is someone who works under a professional’s guidance to help them in their job. In the school sector, paraprofessional educators are also known as teacher’s aides, paraeducators, para-pros, and classroom assistants. These fantastic people deliver targeted support to students who may need extra help and work to maintain the classroom, keeping it running smoothly. Paraprofessionals are the unsung heroes of the education system - without their strong foundation, teachers frequently report feeling overwhelmed and overworked. Paraprofessionals help shoulder the workload and allow teachers to focus on what they do best - teach! Paraprofessional Appreciation Day seeks to bring these professionals to the forefront and show them a little extra love for all the incredible work they do, day in and day out.
Paraprofessional Appreciation Day always takes place on the first Wednesday of April each year. In 2025, Paraprofessional Appreciation Day falls on Wednesday, April 2, giving you plenty of time to plan!
In the 1960s, paraprofessionals were hired to work in schools thanks to an anti-poverty program implemented by President Lyndon B. Johnson. However, paraprofessionals were typically seen as “lesser than,” due to the low salary attributed to the role. It wasn’t until the 1970s that the impact of paraprofessionals began to take shape, as the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) campaigned for better salaries and benefits for these professionals. Through the 1970s, the role of paraprofessional transformed from a low-wage job to a sought-after profession. It is believed that the idea of honoring paraprofessionals came a little later when the governor of Missouri decided to celebrate the work of paraprofessionals in the education sector. Since then, Paraprofessional Appreciation Day has spread across the country, with many school districts taking the first Wednesday in April as a chance to say “thanks.”

Lackland ISD Proposes to Adopt New Instructional Materials
The current Texas State Board of Education’s Instructional Materials Review and Approval process includes the adoption of high-quality instructional materials for English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) and Math courses. A committee of teachers and administrators from both the elementary and secondary campuses have reviewed state approved materials and narrowed their choices to those they seek to recommend for board approval. Lackland Elementary is seeking to recommend Savvas for K-5 ELAR and Stacey Jr./Sr. High is proposing STEMScopes for 6-8 math and Algebra I. Prior to making this recommendation to the Lackland ISD Board of Trustees, the committee is providing an opportunity for parents of children currently enrolled in the district to preview materials and share their feedback. The parent review process is supported by the links provided below and will be open through Friday, April 11, 2025. Parents are encouraged to share their feedback, questions, and concerns with the district using the following link. You may also contact, Dr. Tonya Hyde at hyde.t@lacklandisd.net for prompt attention to your inquiries.

Instant:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification every time a notice or message is sent.
Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.

Announcement for Current PK Parents
Dear Parents and Guardians of Rising Kindergarten
In order to comply with Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements, all students entering Kindergarten are required to have the following immunizations (4-year-old boosters):
DTap Polio MMR

Often, a child has received their immunizations, but we do not have a copy of their most updated immunization record here in the clinic. There are several students still needing these immunizations.

If your child will be attending Lackland ISD during the 2025–2026 school year, you may have them vaccinated at your earliest convenience now, and bring or send proof before the end of this school year so we can update our records.
Students without proper documentation or a valid exemption form will not be allowed in class on the first day of school August 11, 2025, until we receive proof of the required immunizations.

Welcome Back! Nadia Hernandez By: Desiree Hernandez, junior |
|
|
Meet Nadia Hernandez. She is a senior at Stacey who has recently moved back to Lackland and San Antonio after some time. Nadia is a well-rounded student who has traveled around the world and has had amazing experiences. She is currently in the JROTC program and balances her time to do the things she enjoys. With her future plans she is ready to take on wherever life takes her.
Where are you from? I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. 2. What is a hobby you enjoy doing?
I enjoy playing soccer, working out, hanging with family, and watching anime. 3. Where have you lived previously? I have lived in New York and Okinawa Japan
4. How long were you at Lackland before you moved? I was at Lackland ISD for 5 ½ years before I moved in 2017 from the Lackland district. Lifewise, I was born in Lackland and had stayed at here for 10 years until I moved.
5. How did you feel after you found out you were coming back to Lackland?
I was very excited and also intrigued that I would be coming back to Lackland after I had been gone for so long. I was also interested to see who was still here that I had gone to elementary school with. 6. Looking back, do you believe moving away and returning has benefited you in any way?
I am glad that I was able to come back to a school that I know rather than having to start anew somewhere else, but also moving away from my other high school that I had only ever been in since Freshman year, is very out of sorts for me. Most of the measures I went through at my old school partially did not benefit me here due to this school being way different than how things were run at my old school.
7. What’s one thing that stayed exactly the same as when you left?
Honestly, I feel everything has changed in my perspective since I left. Everyone I knew is different (all in positive aspects) and just resuming in the high school environment even in an area I know so well is different than the elementary setting, such drastic changes.
8. What are your plans after you graduate from Stacey? I plan to study sociology in college and get my Bachelor’s degree to hopefully become a social worker or do something in a related field in the future!

We hope that you had a relaxing and enjoyable spring break. As we move into April, we're getting closer to summer break and exciting vacations. However, before we reach that point, April brings several important events for our GT students.
Seventh and eighth grade GT students will be attending the annual Gifted Student Conference at Region 20. Additionally, we are excited to host our second "Cup of Coffee" on April 10th, where we invite GT parents and their students to join us in creating an AI vision board to plan personal goals and dreams. Finally, the LES Robotics Club will be hosting their first intermural competition on April 30th.
There’s so much to look forward to in April— we hope you’ll join us!

| Multiple Perspectives
One key way we aim to foster critical thinking in our students is by encouraging them to consider multiple perspectives.
Multiple Perspectives asks students to consider how another person would think about a topic. By encouraging children to view issues or topics from different angles, we help them develop a well-rounded understanding of the world around them.
Sentence Starters for Multiple Perspectives:
How might a professional in the field view ____ differently from the average person?
What opposing opinions have been voiced about ____? |
