National Teaching Assistants’ Day is a special day dedicated to recognizing the invaluable contributions of teaching assistants in schools and educational institutions. These dedicated professionals play a crucial role in supporting teachers, helping students, and ensuring that classrooms run smoothly. This day is an opportunity to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and impact of teaching assistants on the education system.
What is National Teaching Assistants’ Day?
National Teaching Assistants’ Day is an annual event that honors the work of teaching assistants who provide essential support in the classroom. Teaching assistants assist with lesson preparation, work one-on-one with students, manage classroom behavior, and often support children with special educational needs. The day aims to highlight their contributions and to show appreciation for their dedication to education.
When is National Teaching Assistants’ Day?
National Teaching Assistants’ Day is celebrated annually on September 27th. This day is set aside to acknowledge the hard work of teaching assistants and to encourage everyone in the education community, including students, parents, and teachers, to express their gratitude for the support these professionals provide. |

Each October, National Principals Month recognizes the essential role that principals play in making a school great.
Principals are among the hardest working, yet often least recognized individuals in education. Principals set the academic tone for their schools, and it is their vision, dedication, and determination that provide the mobilizing force for achieving student success. Each October, NASSP, NAESP, and AFSA seek to honor these unsung heroes for their tireless efforts in pursuit of excellence in education.
National Principals Month is a widely recognized celebration of the principalship, marked by national and state resolutions supporting the event, as well as acknowledgements from U.S. Senators and Representatives, and top government officials. However, the most important National Principals Month celebrations are the ones that take place in schools and communities across the country.

No matter where you are in the world, chances are that you’ve had a teacher that you still remember for the positive impact that they made in your life—someone that helped you finally grasp a challenging concept or experience a learning moment that defined your classroom experience.
Every year on October 5, we celebrate World Teachers’ Day. It is a time to remember those special educators who supported us when we were students, and show gratitude to those who inspired us in the classroom. Not only that, but it’s also a day for you to realize how you may now impact students in the same way!
Lackland ISD Teachers and Staff enjoyed Dr. Roper’s Famous Peach Cobbler and Ice Cream in recognition of their contributions as exemplary educators. |

October brings many things to our schools. For some, it’s Friday Night Football and homecoming court. For others, it’s turkeys in the hall and costumes on a school night. And likely for all of us, it’s digging deep into the curriculum we teach, launching our first round of testing, and ensuring that our students are settled in and making progress. This work often happens with the support of an instructional coach, who can help to dig into the curriculum and make sense of assessment data and student growth.
To show your appreciation, take time to celebrate your coaches on National Instructional Coaches Appreciation Day.
What Is Instructional Coach Appreciation Day?
Instructional Coach Appreciation Day is a day each year that is dedicated to acknowledging and praising the coaches who help your school or district. Starting in the fall, coaches begin the steady climb toward success for a campus—its teachers, and especially, its students. And while educators might at times experience that fall frenzy, with coaches by your side, you can feel a sense of belonging, of support, and that your staff has everything under control. Your instructional coaches have a lot to do with making that happen.

Bots in Blue - To the Moon! |

|
Evan Stiverson, Diego Flores, Harmony Bramlett, Isaiah Magana, Le’anjre Jones, Tristyn Myrick, Joseph Coomber, Olivia Albrecht, Cadance Bramlett, Audry Upton, Eliana Flores
Stacey High School’s Bots in Blue Robotics team received the following task while at the project kickoff at St. Mary’s University on September 15th. “The world is preparing to return to the moon! But this time…with an intent to stay.
In preparation, BEST Robotics has been recruited by the world’s space agencies to develop robots that can be deployed now. You have been selected as one of the teams that will send robots back to the moon to perform exploratory tasks and prepare for future habitation by humans. The preparation will be long, arduous work and your robot must withstand the unique harsh low gravity environment. Your team will construct a robot worthy of accomplishing specific lunar tasks and face off in an evaluation to determine which robots are BEST.
In the Low G simulation, each team’s spacecraft is expected to land in an area surrounding the Central Basin Crater, thought to be ideal for mining and construction. Your lander has touched down just outside the crater. It is your home base while visiting the moon and is the safest location to remain in during the freezing lunar nights. The terrain outside your lander will vary. Your robot must be capable of navigating the terrain and completing several tasks that were started during previous missions.
You will work with other teams to construct the Hoberman Habitat Site within the Central Basin Crater. The crater has two permanently shaded regions which are in total darkness and difficult to access and maneuver within.
BEST is excited for the opportunity to provide the robots that will prepare our future on the moon. We are excited that YOU will begin our journey to a multi-planetary civilization! The world is counting on you.”
They were given 2 sheets of plywood, some PVC pipe, string, a bicycle inner tube, some nuts and bolts as well as electronics to build a robot to complete all of the tasks shown in this video:
|
|
|
In preparation for this dauting task, on September 21st the students visited Astroport Space Technologies, a local company that is designing the robots and infrastructure to remotely build Starship landing pads on the moon.
In particular, the students examined a lunar excavator named RASSOR. The acronym RASSOR stands for “Regolith Advanced Surface Systems Operations Robot”. It is a robotic system designed by NASA for lunar excavation and mining tasks, specifically for collecting and processing regolith, which is the loose material on the moon's surface. |

Meet Mrs. Saario! By: Lazaro Barajas, sophomore |
|
|
Please welcome Cristina Saario, the new Stacey Spanish teacher. She teaches 6th & 7th Spanish and Spanish I. What motivated you to join this school, and what are your initial impressions?
There were a lot of reasons that motivated me to pursue this unique teaching opportunity. Personally, I had a strong understanding of the military lifestyle and the unique challenges faced by our military children. I truly felt a connection with this school and my desire to support these students. Teaching in a military base also offers a unique and rewarding teaching environment that’s different from a typical public or private school. It offers the chance to work with a close-knit community that values service and family. Most importantly, the goals for teaching Spanish align with those of teaching on base. Working on base gives me the opportunity to teach in a multicultural setting, where students come from varied backgrounds, enriching the classroom experience.
What are some personal or professional goals you are currently working towards?
We’ve been in San Antonio for three months now and my priority has been helping my children settle in school and in their new home. As for me, I am looking forward to sharing more cultural elements in the classroom to give students a deeper understanding of Spanish-speaking countries. I am also excited to be working with Mr. Ochoa. We have discussed the potential of our students and how we can work together to provide our students with meaningful, fun, learning experiences.
Who has been a significant influence in your life or career, and how have they impacted you?
Parents can have such profound influence, especially when navigating the dual roles of being a teacher and being part of a military family. Their values, experiences, and support can really shape how you approach both a career and family life. Growing up my parents emphasized the importance of duty and sacrifice. I strongly believe that my parents’ values intertwined with my own experiences, shaping the way we have approached military life and education. I hope I am able to instill the same values in my children by working hard in order to make their dreams come true.
Can you tell me a little about your journey to becoming a teacher? What inspired you to pursue this career?
Initially, I wanted to pursue a career in nursing but I decided to take a Mexican American Studies class my second year of college. That same semester I decided to change my major to Spanish. It took me a little longer to complete my degree but I certainly do not regret it. I have been able to impact many students and helped so many families as a Spanish and ESL teacher. I hope to continue to use my degree not only in the classroom but I am also looking forward to building relationships with the San Antonio community.
How do you plan to contribute to the school’s goals and mission?
As a Spanish teacher, contributing to the school’s goals and mission involves aligning my teaching approach with the broader vision of the school while fostering academic growth, cultural understanding, and community engagement. I hope to provide a supportive, inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe taking risks and making mistakes as they learn. I also plan to inspire students to view language learning as a lifelong journey, teaching them study techniques and strategies that will enable them to continue improving their Spanish skills even after they leave my classroom. Most importantly, I will continue to advocate for the importance of learning multiple languages and facilitate opportunities for students to practice Spanish in the real world. By doing this, I would have contributed to the school’s mission of preparing students for success in a diverse world.
What do you enjoy doing outside of teaching? Do you have any hobbies or interests that you’re passionate about?
My husband and I travel at least twice a year and we look forward to that every time. We have traveled to Italy, Mexico, Belize, Spain, and other places. This summer we went to Italy and explored Rome, Florence, and Tuscany. It has become one of the most memorable experiences. Our love for travel continues to grow. We hope to continue enjoying those adventures together and with our children.
Can you share a meaningful experience or accomplishment from your career that you’re particularly proud of?
My family and I used to live in San Antonio a few years ago. During that time, I gained a tremendous amount of experience teaching AP Spanish and ESL. Those years of teaching upper level courses and helping our ESL students shaped the type of teacher that I am today. My mission since then has been to provide my students with authentic, meaningful life experiences and being an advocate for our students and parents.
Do you have any pets?
I do and his name is Charlie. He is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the newest member of our family. What’s your favorite food?
I absolutely love Mexican food. That is one of the many reasons why we were so excited to move back to San Antonio. We have been exploring food since we moved back and it has been wonderful. However, I am extremely excited to explore cuisine from Central and South America. I have several parents and students who are excited about coming to my classroom and sharing a little about their culture as well.
Thank you Mrs. Saario! |

Stacey Flashback: Maya Charles By: Tristan Armstrong, junior |
|
|
When did you go to Stacey?
I started my journey at Stacey in the 6th grade, so I began around 2008. Did you graduate from here?
Yes I did graduate from Stacey. I am from the class of 2015. My graduating class was about 36 students. How many schools did you attend?
Over the course of my family's time in the military, I attended 3 schools, with Stacey being the one I stayed at the longest. Where did you go to college?
I attended college at the University of North Texas and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Ecology for Environmental Science with the Class of 2020. I have plans to start my graduate degree next year seeking an MPH in Occupational Health and Safety.
Where do you live now? Currently I live in Austin, TX. which has lots of music, all sorts of events, and never ending traffic on I-35 no matter the time of day!
Do you have any siblings? I do have a sibling, my younger sister who also attended Stacey. She is one of the rare students who attended Stacey from Pre K-4 to 12th grade.
What do you enjoy doing for fun in your free time? When I'm not working I enjoy birdwatching, gardening, thrifting, upcycling, and playing DnD around town. I also love roaming around town, finding events, and meeting new people. If you could live in any fictional world, which would it be?
For a fictional world, probably the Avatar the Last Airbender world. I'd love to be a bender but I'd most likely end up like the cabbage vendor. Any wisdom you would like to share with the current Stacey seniors?
My advice to upcoming seniors: Life is like the changing of seasons. What I mean by that, is that the things you experience and are going through are not your end all be all. There will be times your expectations of people, jobs, and thing aren't met. You may feel disappointed, lacking confidence, and over all not great. These experiences and feelings will not last forever. Take them on and learn from them. Just like seasons, they too will pass and you will leave stronger, wiser, and ready for the next.
THANK You Maya! |
