School Nurse Appreciation Day – May 7th
As healers, comforters, and role models for children, school nurses do their job well and rise up to the challenge of caring for school students everywhere.
They help improve attendance, enforce federal law, help staff health, and improve academic performance. School nurses don’t always get the recognition they deserve.
National School Nurse Day was created to give them celebrate them and thank them for taking care of our children and advocating for improved health services in schools.
Thank you to our nurses at Lackland ISD! |

Parent Square Notifications
Under General Announcements, you can select how often you want to receive notifications for posts. Select Off, Instant or Digest notifications. Off:no notifications about posts will be sent to you. Emergency Alerts and Notices will still be sent. School Alerts will still be sent if turned on.
Instant:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification every time a notice or message is sent.
Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.
The default setting is typically Digest, so that you receive all notices and post messages in one convenient notification once a day. All emergency notifications still come through instantly, and a school can override settings as needed for an urgent message. |

Announcement for Current PK Parents
Dear Parents and Guardians of Rising Kindergarten
In order to comply with Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements, all students entering Kindergarten are required to have the following immunizations (4-year-old boosters):
DTap Polio MMR
Varicella
Often, a child has received their immunizations, but we do not have a copy of their most updated immunization record here in the clinic. There are several students still needing these immunizations.

If your child will be attending Lackland ISD during the 2025–2026 school year, you may have them vaccinated at your earliest convenience now, and bring or send proof before the end of this school year so we can update our records.
Students without proper documentation or a valid exemption form will not be allowed in class on the first day of school August 11, 2025, until we receive proof of the required immunizations.

On May 2nd and 3rd Zach Born traveled to Austin to compete in the UIL 2A State Track & Field meet at Mike A. Myers stadium at the University of Texas, Austin. On Friday morning, Zach ran the 3200M race. The race for the podium was closely contested from start to finish. Going into the last lap, Zach was in 5th place, but less than a second behind 2nd place. On the back stretch, the pack started to pull away from Zach, but Zach closed the gap going into the last turn. As the pack turned the corner for the last 100m, Zach started his kick and ran to an impressive 3rd place finish with a time of 9:58.901. Shortly after the race concluded, the weather forced the meet to be postponed to Saturday.
On Saturday afternoon, Zach ran the 1600M race. As the race started, Zach settled into 3rd place. Going into the last lap, he was still in 3rd with the 4th place runner starting to make a move. Zach held his ground and by the last 200M the 4th place runner had fallen back. That left Zach and a runner from Bosqueville to battle it out for 2nd place. When they made the turn for the last 100M, Zach ran past and never looked back. Zach finished in 2nd place with a time of 4:28.074 which is a new school record.
Congratulations to Zach on a fantastic finish to the season!! |

The AVID students at Stacey have been committed to a community service project impacting our school community by clearing out leaves and debris to assist the maintenance department in beautifying the campus. Over 2 days, both classes combined have raked 160 bags of leaves. They collected a sampling of data by weighing 10 bags in each class for an average of 15.5 lbs per bag for an approximate total of 2480 lbs of leaves and debris removed. They have enjoyed the project so much that they want to continue once a week until the end of school.

How long have you been at Lackland ISD?
I started at Stacey Jr/Sr High School in the 2013-2014 school year so this will be my 12th year at Lackland ISD. What different jobs have you had here?
I was hired as the Academic Dean. I then transitioned to the role of Assistant Principal and then became Principal in the 2016-2017 school year. What other districts have you worked at previously? I have worked in Northside ISD, Education Service Center – Region 20, and South San Antonio ISD. Where did you grow up and go to high school? I grew up in several places mostly on the East Coast in Maryland, Washington, DC, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. We moved to Texas my sophomore year and I attended Belton High School.
What colleges have you attended and what degrees have you acquired? Texas Tech University – Bachelor of Business Administration
Trinity University – Master of Education The University of Texas at San Antonio – Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership
What is your favorite thing about Stacey? The students.
What is your favorite day of the school year? If I had to pick only one, it would be Graduation.
How were you motivated to earn your doctorate degree and how long did it take you to reach this goal? It took four years to earn and I felt like it would help me become a better educational leader and advocate for public education.
What are some things you like to do in your free time?
I haven’t had much free time since most of it was spent working on completing my dissertation, but I plan to get back to running and training for the inaugural San Antonio Half Marathon.
Thank you, Dr. Shelby. Is there anything else you would like to add? Thank you for this opportunity! |

Multiple Perspectives
One key way we aim to foster critical thinking in our students is by encouraging them to consider multiple perspectives.
Multiple Perspectives asks students to consider how another person would think about a topic. By encouraging children to view issues or topics from different angles, we help them develop a well-rounded understanding of the world around them.
Sentence Starters for Multiple Perspectives:
How might a professional in the field view ____ differently from the average person?
What opposing opinions have been voiced about ____? |
