Presidents Day is celebrated on the third Monday in February. In 2023, Presidents Day falls on Feb. 20.

The holiday was initially established in 1879 to honor George Washington, the nation’s first president. It was celebrated on Feb. 22, his birthday.

Washington's Birthday was celebrated on February 22nd until well into the 20th Century. However, in 1968 Congress passed the Monday Holiday Law to ‘provide uniform annual observances of certain legal public holidays on Mondays.’ By creating more 3-day weekends, Congress hoped to ‘bring substantial benefits to both the spiritual and economic life of the Nation.’

In 1971, the holiday moved to the third Monday in February as part of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act..

Today, Presidents Day is an occasion to recognize all U.S. presidents, past and present, though some people still call it Washington’s Birthday.

National Tree

Did you know that the United States has a national tree?  Is it the redwood, the maple, the pine, the dogwood, or the oak?  If you guessed oak, you are correct!!!

A nationwide vote was hosted by the Arbor Day Foundation:  the oak was the top vote-getter.

Congress pased a bill designating the oak as our national tree and former President George W. Bush signed the bill.  There are more than 60 kinds of oak trees growing in the United States, and they are prized for their beauty, shade, and lumber.

Every year, members of the Arbor Day Foundation plant an average of 22,000 trees a day.

Enjoy the shade of the mighty oak trees!!

Good Information

“My Child Needs More Time with the Speech Therapist!”

This is one of the most common requests that I hear from parents of children with autism, and I TOTALLY get where you’re coming from. A speech therapist helps children talk better. You want your child to talk better. It makes sense that increasing the amount of time that your child sees the therapist would help them talk better more quickly, right?
Well, it’s more complicated than that.
