Teachers Go Above & Beyond for Students. NOW IT’S OUR TURN TO SHARE OUR SUPPORT.
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 8-12, 2023, and this year, we’re joining together to tell teachers that we will listen to them, we will stand with them, and together we will take action so that every student has a teacher who feels respected and supported.
No matter their ZIP code or the color of their skin, teachers are creating lesson plans while they create a sense of safety and belonging for their students. They are getting up early to make it work and they stay up late with worry. Teachers are working with parents and caregivers while they work without enough resources. They are reaching students who are falling behind and must reach into their own pockets to transform classrooms into learning environments.

Thank you LISD teachers for your dedication to our students! ************* On the first Friday in May, we celebrate School Lunch Hero Day! In 2023, this special day of celebration will be on May 5. That Friday we will recognize school nutrition professionals and the difference they make every day! Between preparing healthy meals for Texas students, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, school nutrition professionals are true heroes.
School Lunch Hero Day provides the perfect opportunity to recognize the hardworking professionals in your school cafeterias.

Closing Out National Library Month
By: Anna Williams , 10th grade
April was library month and I would like to thank our outstanding librarians, Ms. Palmerton (Stacey librarian), Ms. Walderman (Lackland elementary librarian), and Ms. McDaris (librarian assistant) for the outstanding work and time that they have put into our library. The library is a great place for students to find books, test preparation resources, and more! Our librarians are always happy to help LISD students find what they need. The elementary classes each have a day to visit the library and on occasion Mrs. Duron, one of our high school teachers, takes her classes to the library to play games and read books to the elementary students. We also have a Book Fair coming up on May 8-12 with after-school shopping. All elementary kids are welcome to pick out a book of their choice to keep for free.

Robotics Crash Course! By Cadence Bramlett, 9th grade
The robotics crash course is an after-school activity that gives students the opportunity to learn about robots and code. It helps ease students into the spirit of FRC, FTC, and BEST. It’s a quick and easy learning course to help kids get an overall grasp of robotics before upcoming robotics events. The course is led by one of our seniors (Sandra Williams) with the help of previous robotics participants who now work as mentors. The crash course teaches you everything from the basics of building to the complexities of coding. The coding regiment is run by another one of our seniors (Perry Weller). The course is led by Mr. Kinsey on Tuesday and Thursday after school from 3:20 to 4:20.

Senior Spotlight: Grace O’Brien
By: Gabby DeLambo, sophomore |
|
|
Grace has starred in several productions by the Stacey drama department. She is the current editor of the Stacey yearbook and will be attending UTSA! How long have you been at Stacey? I've been at Stacey since my Sophomore year in 2020. What other places have you lived? I've also lived in Georgia and two different bases in Germany.
What were some ups and downs of being editor of the yearbook? Some of the biggest ups was seeing everyone's finished pages or submitting the final spread to Walsworth! I loved seeing how everyone's creativity shined through their pages. One of the major downs was having to edit whole spreads into the right fonts. Do you have a favorite yearbook memory?
My favorite yearbook memory is probably the day we submitted the whole yearbook. Some of my team had stayed past the normal yearbook period to help and one or two of us decided to completely redo spreads last minute! It was awesome to put the last elements in the yearbook.
What was your favorite drama production you were part of at Stacey and why?
My favorite production would either be my first play "She Kills Monsters", or my most recent "Twelfth Night." She Kills Monsters was my introduction to drama club and was my favorite script but Twelfth Night had my favorite character (Olivia) and I connected more with that cast.
Do you have a favorite drama club memory?
By far my favorite memory of drama club was when I kicked my dress into a friend's face. It was our final show of Twelfth Night, and my character had a scene where she changed on stage and kicked her old clothes at the narrator but this time the dress flew and hit him square in the face. I could barely keep my cool on stage and everyone loved it. What are your after high school plans? After High School I'm going to UTSA! My goal is to be a math teacher and work in a high school or middle school. What do you enjoy doing outside of school? Outside of school I enjoy doing chill hobbies like crocheting, writing, and spending time with my cat Salem. What was your favorite and least favorite year of high school and why?
My least favorite year of high school was my sophomore year because I had just moved here and didn't really know anyone and was at home most of the year due to Covid. My favorite year would be this year, my senior year, because I was able to pursue all my goals in Yearbook, Drama, Academics, and have kept a strong friend group that supported me throughout the whole year. Overall, how are you feeling about graduating very soon? I'm excited to graduate! I'm ready to go into the next chapter of my life but I will be sad to be leaving Stacey. Thank you, Grace! |

Niccolo Machiaveli Is Born |
|
|
On May 3, 1469, the Italian philosopher and writer Niccolo Machiavelli is born. A lifelong patriot and diehard proponent of a unified Italy, Machiavelli became one of the fathers of modern political theory.
Machiavelli entered the political service of his native Florence by the time he was 29. As defense secretary, he distinguished himself by executing policies that strengthened Florence politically. He soon found himself assigned diplomatic missions for his principality, through which he met such luminaries as Louis XII of France, Pope Julius II, the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I, and perhaps most importantly for Machiavelli, a prince of the Papal States named Cesare Borgia. The shrewd and cunning Borgia later inspired the title character in Machiavelli’s famous and influential political treatise The Prince (1532).
Machiavelli’s political life took a downward turn after 1512, when he fell out of favor with the powerful Medici family. He was accused of conspiracy, imprisoned, tortured and temporarily exiled. It was an attempt to regain a political post and the Medici family’s good favor that Machiavelli penned The Prince, which was to become his most well-known work. Last PTSO meeting of the school year is coming up. We are really trying to rebuild and grow the PTSO and this is where we need help. We need you. We need staff and parents to support us. We have so many ideas and plans for this upcoming year but can not do it alone. If you have ever been interested in volunteering or even holding a position on the board now is the time. We will be voting in the whole board at the next meeting. Every seat is open to vote on. So if this sounds like something you would be interested in please send us a message so we can answer any questions and get your name on the ballot. If holding a board position isn't for you, there are still so many ways to ways to help. We hope you will consider joining us on May 15th @ 5:00 pm in the Cynthia Lyons Center. See you there!
