Admin Alley Lackland ISD Establishes Education Foundation
We are proud to announce that the Lackland Independent School District Education Foundation is up and running! The Lackland ISD School Board originally approved the establishment of an Educational Foundation on December 17, 2019 and the district has been working with a company known as Foundation Innovation to help our Foundation organize and become a legal 501(c) 3 organization. Our Foundation Board is currently small, but we are actively recruiting board members who are interested in supporting the students and teachers of Lackland ISD. Although the pandemic slowed us down considerably, we are quickly rebounding and planning exciting activities to raise funds for the Foundation which will help provide teacher grants and scholarship opportunities for Lackland ISD students. We encourage everyone to help support the Foundation by giving a tax-deductible gift to help support the great things that are happening in the Lackland Independent School District. The Foundation is currently accepting monetary gifts of any size and checks can be made out to the following: Lackland ISD Education Foundation 2460 Kenly Ave Building 8265 San Antonio, TX 78236
A receipt will be provided and can be used on your taxes as a charitable gift.
We are also working on providing a way to give online. When that process is completed, we will provide that information. We thank you in advance for supporting the Lackland ISD Education Foundation. Around the District Lackland ISD Celebrates Women’s History Month
Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society and has been observed annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987. Women’s History Month 2021 will take place from Monday, March 1-Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Why Do We Celebrate Women’s History Month? Women’s History Month is a dedicated month to reflect on the often-overlooked contributions of women to United States history. From Abigail Adams to Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth to Rosa Parks, the timeline of women’s history milestones stretches back to the founding of the United States. The actual celebration of Women’s History Month grew out of a weeklong celebration of women’s contributions to culture, history and society organized by the school district of Sonoma, California, in 1978. Presentations were given at dozens of schools, hundreds of students participated in a “Real Woman” essay contest and a parade was held in downtown Santa Rosa. A few years later, the idea had caught on within communities, school districts and organizations across the country. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8 as National Women’s History Week. The U.S. Congress followed suit the next year, passing a resolution establishing a national celebration. Six years later, the National Women’s History Project successfully petitioned Congress to expand the event to the entire month of March.

Mr. Castillo, one of Lackland ISD's Military and Family Life counselors, has been part of Mrs. Duron's Family and Community Services class all year. He has helped us with service projects, gave advice when doing class discussions, and completed group activities with the students. Mr. Castillo is transitioning to the elementary campus and even though it is not far, he will be missed. On his last day in class, the virtual learners had to come up with a recipe using the supplies in the kitchen and instruct Olivia and Mr. Castillo how to make them. Banana bread was the end product for Mr. Castillo's going away goody.
Meet Coach David Cardenas! by: Emma Adams, freshman Where were you born and raised? I was actually born in Virginia as my father was in the NAVY. We moved back to San Antonio, Texas about 2 months after I was born and I was raised here my entire life.
What high school and college did you go to? I graduated from Thomas Edison High School here in San Antonio in the SAISD school district in 1992 where I played on the basketball team. I then went onto UTSA where I entered as a business major and left with a degree in KINESIOLOGY, which entitled me to be a physical education teacher. I graduated in 1999 from UTSA.
How long have you been working here at Stacey? I did my student teaching in the spring of 2000 and got hired here at Lackland in the fall of 2000. My first official year was the 2000- 2001 school year. This year makes 21 years of teaching all here at Lackland ISD.
What do you like most about Lackland ISD? The thing I love the most is the students who I get to teach and interact with. It has been an absolute joy and privilege to do this job and then to be able to see students grow up from elementary to high school is really awesome, like you Emma. I love that the kids get to come to P.E. everyday. That is very rare to see these days. New kids are usually pretty excited about coming to P.E. everyday.
What’s your favorite activity to do with your students? The all-time favorite without a doubt was DODGEBALL. Even though we used foam gator balls it was still the best. Dodgeball Friday was the best day ever according to the students. They could not wait to play and neither could I. I was living the dream! I was actually getting paid to play dodgeball. LOL. I have run into many former students who return for a homecoming game or if I run across them at a local store and 9 times out of 10 they bring up all their memories of playing dodgeball in P.E. and how it was their favorite thing ever. When they think of their elementary years they often think about how fun they had playing it. I had parents tell me that they had to NOT schedule any doctor appointments on Dodgeball Friday because it would upset their kid. ha ha. Unfortunately we don’t play it anymore. :( Aside from that, there are many favorites like Locker Room, Knock Out, Freeway Race also known as relay race, Hector Protector, just to name a few. The kids enjoyment of the activities truly make the games come to life.
What’s your favorite sport to play? Basketball is my favorite sport to play and I have recently started to play golf. I NEVER thought I’d like golf because it seemed so boring, but it is actually really fun. Very challenging but fun. Think of it as mini golf where you get to hit the ball hard and far.
What is your favorite sport to watch? I like to watch NBA and NFL mostly. The Spurs are my favorite team in basketball and my favorite NFL team is the Dallas Cowboys.
What’s your favorite hobby? My favorite hobbies would probably be fishing, bowling, and playing video games. I’m not a huge gamer but I do like to play a little COD now and then or NBA2k. I like story based horror video games like Resident Evil as well.
How has COVID affected your job here at LISD? COVID has really made the job challenging. We have to make sure the kids are keeping masks on and are practicing social distance as best as possible, which is pretty challenging when your dealing with 4 to 6 year old's. I must say the students have really stepped up to the challenge and have been doing a great job for the most part. Also, we are constantly cleaning and sanitizing equipment so that they can be ready for the next class or sometimes even for the next group of users in the same class. We sanitize hands before using equipment, after using , and at the end of class. It is very time consuming but I have a great staff in Mrs. Flores and Miss Ryan who make sure things get cleaned and ready all day long. I’m really lucky to have them!! We do this so that the students can still have a great P.E. experience. I feel like they still really enjoy coming to P.E. and that it is a highlight of their day.
Any other interesting facts you would like to share? Hmm… Coach Flores who is the counselor at the elementary and I both graduated the same year from the same high school. We met each other on the basketball team and have been best friends ever since. He even used to be the other elementary PE teacher with me before he became a counselor. I have been lucky enough to have seen about 10 to 15 students that I had as kindergartners grow up and graduate from STACEY. It is pretty cool to watch them come in as 5 yr old's and see them leave as adults. Mr. Harlan from the IPAD recharge zone ….I was his PE teacher here at Lackland when he was like in third grade. Miss Ryan my current P.E. aide….is a former student of mine that I had from 1st thru 6th grade she too graduated from Stacey. This week I met a student whose Dad was a former student of mine 😲 I have a son that is 10th grader at Stacey but he has been doing virtual learning this year. I am a huge Godzilla fan. THANK YOU Coach Cardenas!
Bike-sharing programs allow people to rent a bicycle from a public station in large cities around the world!! Paris, France has one of the most successful programs with over 20,000 bikes...1,500 bike stations...AND 3 million people in the program.

With almost 300,000 bikes made every day, the bike-share program is an excellent way of getting bikes to people who need them and don't want to keep them at home. Let's go for a bike ride!!!
