Dear Lackland Family Retirees,
Thank you for your many years of dedicated service to Lackland ISD. Some of you have worked diligently in the classroom with our students and some of you have been in awesome support roles working in other areas that are so critical to the total operation of our school district. Together, as a team, you worked to provide an awesome environment for all students. I wish you all good health and happy times with your family and friends. We are so blessed to have had such dedication and loyalty from all of you. I am both happy and sad. Happy that you all will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor, but sad that you will no longer be here as an active member of our staff. You will however, always be a member of the Lackland Family. I appreciate all of the time you have spent molding minds and preparing our military-connected students for their future. All of you in your individual capacities have made amazing contributions to your campuses and our district. We are forever grateful. We wish all of you the best during retirement and we pray that you will remain in the best of health. Enjoy the next leg of this journey we call life!
May God Bless You Always, Dr. Burnie Roper Superintendent of Schools

Top of their Class by: Jack Macfarlane, junior
Our valedictorian, Abriana Himantog, and salutatorian, Cassedy Ryan, have been named for the Stacey Class of 2019. Abriana has been attending Stacey for four years, and has participated in several school clubs and activities; these include: UIL academics, Student Council, S2S, CyberPatriot, among others. Her new title as top of her class is well-deserved, and was expected by her peers with her clear academic excellence. Abriana is set to attend the University of Texas at Austin to study Astronomy in her upcoming collegiate years.
Our salutatorian, Cassedy Ryan, has attended Stacey for all of junior and senior high school, additionally attending Lackland Elementary long before. Skipping her eleventh grade, Cassedy was a welcome addition to the senior class. Cassedy was a clear candidate for salutatorian, participating in Student Council, UIL academics and varsity basketball among others. She intends to go to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. She will major in Philosophy and Biology with a minor in Mathematics. But first, she is going to clown college in California! Congratulations to our class leaders, and congratulations to the rest of the Class of 2019!
Harvard Prize Books are awarded to outstanding students in the next-to-graduating high school class (high school juniors) who display excellence in scholarship and high character, combined with achievement in other fields. The books are donated by local Harvard clubs and Shared Interest Groups (SIGs), and they are presented annually in nearly 2,000 high schools around the world. The recipients are chosen at the discretion of the local high school. Lackland’s own Dr. Kyle Jones is an alum of Harvard, and he and his wife, Chiharu Matsuda, donated a book through the local Harvard Club of San Antonio to recognize an outstanding student. Junior Conner O’Malley was the recipient of this year’s prize, which includes an actual book with an official Harvard bookplate to record the names of the donors and the award recipient (plus a commemorative bookmark). Local and special to San Antonio, the award also includes an invitation to a BBQ meal for all local winners and their families in the fall. Congratulations to Conner!
Go Public revealed the 2019 high school student artwork featured on San Antonio city buses on Saturday, May 18, 2019. There were a record 229 entries from high school students throughout SA! It was truly incredible to see the talent. Featured here is the artwork of Lackland ISD student, Ruthie Chesney. We truly appreciate the hard work and dedication of art teacher, Mrs. Stege for encouraging students to share their artistic talents with others. Congratulations Ruthie.
Good Morning Stacey! by: Rylie Dow, senior
Morning announcements are typically overlooked and taken for granted! They are streamed on the StaceyNews YouTube channel every day. Today we are putting a light onto Sara Kinney and the film club who prepare the morning announcements under the direction of Mr. Richard.
What time do you arrive at the school to get ready for morning announcements? I get here usually about 7:20, but other members get here earlier. Who is in the morning announcements crew? Everyone in the photo plus me (Sara Kinney) (left to right) Taylor Grider, Isaac Council, Valeria Zamora-Martinez, Mark Dombrowski, Ryan Newman, Jack Macfarlane, Catie Traxler, Adam Kinney
What are the different jobs and responsibilities? We usually put 2 people in front of the camera, one person on teleprompter, one person on sound, and one person on tricaster, which just switches the images broadcasted.
What is the best part about doing the morning announcements? It’s just an easy way to start the day; I get to see friends before school instead of just going to the first class of the day.
What is the worst part about doing the morning announcements? People sometimes get upset when their announcements don’t get put in, which sometimes is our fault, but other times it is because the email has not come through yet. Also, if you misread something on air, Mr. Kinsey will mention it.
How long have you been doing morning announcements? I did it for the end part of last year and this year.
What is your favorite memory from morning announcements? Last year, Raul brought a prop horse on the stream with him and that was pretty cool with all the neighing someone did while sitting under the table.
Thank you Sara and the film club for keeping everyone informed every day!

JH StuCo Member of the Year The student council member of the year is 8th grader Josey Whitaker! She is our treasurer and a valued leader. Josey did an amazing job on tasks such as advertising the student vs. faculty basketball game and selling rose grams for Valentine's Day. Stepping up when needed the most, she demonstrated what it means to be a leader with her decision making skills and ability to inspire others. Going above and beyond in everything she does, Josey without a doubt deserves to be the JH StuCo student of the year! Elementary Happenings Kinder Buddy Reading with First graders
