LISD Celebrates Our Board During School Board Recognition Month

This past Tuesday, January 26, 2021, Lackland ISD celebrated our amazing school board members acknowledging their service to our district. The pandemic has made it difficult for the board to all meet in person, but our board members continue to conduct school district business either in person or via Zoom. They continue to support the district vision and mission as we work our way through an unprecedented pandemic. The schools and the district showed our appreciation by presenting each of them with baskets that included several goodies. We appreciate our board and we honor each of them for their service to Lackland ISD.

Lackland ISD Shares Survey Results

Parents Speak

Thank you for taking advantage of the opportunity to share your voice as members of the Lackland ISD learning organization by participating in the Fall 2020 survey.  Due to the pandemic we modified the survey questions from the original to obtain feedback on Cultural Awareness and Action, Family-School Communication, and Student Needs.  Based on the responses from 69 of our families below is the feedback we received:

Note: The number below each statement represents the # of people who selected that statement.

Austin, Texas: Capital of Texas

The Texas capital building opened in 1888.  The Texas State Senate and House of Representatives make the laws there.  The building is made of pink granite from a quarry in Texas.  The Goddess of Liberty sits atop the capital dome.  The life-size statues of Stephen F. Austin, known as the "Father of Texas" and Sam Houston are honored there.  Austin is located in the Hill Country Region of Texas

Question:  Which would mess us up your hair more...a stream of solar wind traveling at 1 million miles (1.6 million kilometers) per hour or a wind on Earth blowing 13 miles (21 kilometers) per hour?

Answer:  The wind on Earth would mess up your hair more.  The solar wind moves extremely fast, but it is made of  so very few particles, it would not have enough mass to move your hair.  When traveling its average speed, the solar wind will travel 24 million miles (38.4 million kilometers) in one day.

This means it takes almost four days to go the 93 million miles (149.5 million kilometers) to the Earth.

The Alamo Area Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (AAASCD) announces its annual scholarship opportunity for graduating seniors.  AAASCD, an affiliate of the Texas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, is a professional educational organization dedicated to improving teaching and learning for the success of all learners.

What is the AAASCD scholarship?

It is a $750 scholarship (one-time award) presented to two graduating high school seniors who plan to major in the field of education and pursue a teaching career in Texas public schools.

Who can participate?

Any graduating high school student from campuses in Region 20 in which an active AAASCD member is employed who: is a Texas resident; has a minimum overall (cumulative) high school grade point average of 3.00 on a four-point scale [to be considered for this scholarship, your overall (cumulative) grade point average must be computed on a four-point scale and on an unweighted basis]; plans to attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student (minimum 12 semester hours); plans to seek a baccalaureate degree in the field of education and teaching in the Texas Public Schools.

Selection Criteria:

Selection will be based upon academic record, extracurricular/community involvement, volunteer/job activities, and essay. Scholarships will be awarded without regard to gender, race, religion, national origin, or economic status.  The recipients may accept any and all other financial assistance.  Scholarship monies will be sent directly to the recipient’s college or university to meet direct college/university costs.  Any scholarship recipient who does not enroll at an accredited college or university by the following academic year forfeits their scholarship.
