Auxiliary – Reynaldo Arce serves as a Custodian at our Elementary School. During the 4 years that Reynaldo has been at Lackland ISD he has embodied the concept of “exceptional merit over an extended period of time”. As a custodian, he shares his expertise and enthusiasm daily with all students and staff that he comes into contact with during his daily deliveries and while ensuring student and staff spaces are safe and clean. Reynaldo does an expert job at making students feel special, especially those with different learning styles. He knows the students by name and always greets them warmly. Reynaldo makes time to drop by the classrooms and say some kind words to his pre-k and kinder friends and you can tell how much they look forward to seeing him from the chorus of “hey Mr. Rey” from the students. She works diligently to foster great relationships with each of us and never fails to offer a helping hand. At the beginning of the school year when our Library Management System suffered a massive technical failure, Mrs. Flores took the initiative and manually imputed the information for every individual student, while tirelessly completing her many other administrative duties. Mrs. Flores knows each student by name, and takes the time to learn about their interests, personalities and needs in order to help them find materials that they connect with, helping foster a true love of reading in every child. Balloon Fest
The 2022 Stacey senior class left a parting gift for Mr. Shelby—2000 balloons in his office. The anonymous ringleader said that seniors had been planning and staging the prank from a covert location on campus. Rumor is that several faculty members were in on the stunt. |

Interviewing Mrs. Rebecca Macal
By Shannah Flores-Betancourt, senior |

As the school year reaches its conclusion, I would like to draw your attention to a very important portion of our staff here at Stacey and Lackland ISD. Our people behind the scenes; the support staff! From ensuring our safety on the buses to cleaning up our messes, I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all! More specifically, my bus driver and the transportation supervisor of this school year, Mrs. Rebecca Macal! How long have you been employed at Lackland ISD? Since 2013. What’s your usual day to day as a bus driver?
My usual day to day consists of getting up super early, going to the industrial side of Lackland, checking the buses and making sure they’re safe as well as letting them idle, picking up the kids and dropping them off at school at around 6:45-7:00am. Then hang around on Lackland, get the bus ready and pick up at 3:15pm and drop off at 3:40pm and be back at the industrial yard at 4:00pm. Field trips and evacuations are also a part of my job, as well as picking up and dropping off the Fort Sam and Lackland students with special needs.
What’s a fond memory of this year? Getting the streets fixed at Medina. What’s your favorite part of your job? The kids.
What’s your least favorite part of your job? When a bus breaks down. What advice do you have for people pursuing this career?
You have to have compassion and patience for kids because kids are kids. You have to be understanding, especially when dealing with the elementary kids. Also study for your CDL; it’s more complicated to get it now than before! What license/certification do you need to be a bus driver?
A CDL with a passenger’s endorsement and school bus endorsement as well as bus certification through Region 20. You also have to take a refresher class 2-3 years. What do you do in your spare time? Stay on base and catch up on paperwork or go home and relax! I would like to again thank Mrs. Macal for all that she has done for the Lackland ISD community as well as taking the time to recognize all the other members of the support staff who have helped the staff and students this school year! |

House for the Constitutional Convention. The building, which is now known as Independence Hall, had been the venue for the drafting of the Declaration of Independence and the signing of the Articles of Confederation. Revolutionary War hero, George Washington, a delegate from Virginia, was elected convention president. Today, the United States Constitution is the oldest written national constitution in operation in the world. Pam Torre

On Sunday the elementary 4th / 5th grade Art Club was recognized for creating a sculpture in a program sponsored by the McNay Museum of Art called "Spotlight".
Students from over 30 schools (elementary through high school) created artwork inspired by New Jersey artist Willie Cole's bronze sculpture "Sole Sitter". 14 of the schools (including Lackland Elementary) pieces are featured in the main patio Gallery on view until October 6. It is quite an honor!
Several students showed up for the ceremony! It is an awesome thing when young artists can experience something so inspiring and beneficial to their future creative endeavors! |
