Beginning in the mid-1980s, April was designated as the time to recognize military kids for their sacrifice and bravery. Mr. Frank T. Brogan, Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education, was in attendance at Lackland ISD's Purple Up Parade. This event demonstrates our appreciation of military children who also serve through the sacrifices made by their family in support of the nation. Mr. Brogan had the opportunity to visit numerous classrooms and engage with students in the innovative programs within the school system. He heard first hand of the successes and challenges that educators and students face in today’s learning environment. He will also be showcasing the partnership programs with the installation along with the STEM program.
KENS 5, WOAI 4, and FOX 29 will have our school and kids featured on their stations this evening at 5, 6, and 10. Around the District National Assistant Principal’s Week

Last week was the big reveal day for the cardboard kids. A couple of Mrs. Duron's classes worked with third and fifth graders during their art time to complete the creation of each kid. They had only one hour to work together to bring their kid to life. This city-wide public awareness campaign was established to draw attention to the pervasiveness of the child abuse and the fact that every story is different and every child unique. Cardboard Kids® are more than two-foot-tall cardboard figures. They represent one of the thousands of children that are abused and neglected at the hands of adults in our community each year. They start the conversation, not only by creating a visual symbol for children to identify with but by also providing valuable tips for caregivers on how to talk to their children about child abuse and neglect. You can also visit Cardboardkids.org for more information.
