Lackland ISD’s Superintendent Holds Town Hall Meeting
Lackland ISD Superintendent Dr. Burnie Roper kicked off the 2024-25 school year with the first town hall meeting, focusing on the district’s vision, mission, and core beliefs. He delivered a comprehensive overview, highlighting enrollment figures, recent achievements, and ongoing initiatives, with a current enrollment of just over 1,015 students. Dr. Roper acknowledged the hard work of campus principals in supporting military-connected students, particularly during transitions, which has once again earned each campus the Texas Education Agency Purple Star Designation for the third consecutive time.
Mrs. Guyton, Director of Special and Federal Programs, provided updates on current initiatives, including activities funded by a $1.25 million grant from DoDEA. This grant has already facilitated significant successes, such as 8 out of 11 students passing the patient care technician certification in the first year of the Nursing Health Science Program. A group of students will represent the program at the upcoming DoDEA conference in Norfolk, Virginia, where they will discuss the program's benefits, their personal experiences, and future goals.
Dr. Roper also invited parents to engage in decision-making committees throughout the year, such as the District and Campus Education Improvement Committees, the School Health Advisory Council, and the District Technology Committee. PTSO President Mrs. Chicoine encouraged parents to join the PTSO, highlighting opportunities for involvement in various activities, including the fall festival, skate nights, teacher appreciation events, senior trips, and educational initiatives like box tops and boo grams.
During the question-and-answer segment, parents raised concerns about new visitor policies during elementary lunch periods, the availability of microwaves during secondary lunches, communication protocols, and senior class programs and activities. Campus principals and the director of technology addressed these issues, with Dr. Roper assuring parents that practices would be reviewed based on their feedback.
The meeting was well attended by district leaders, along with over 20 parents and students. We look forward to continued participation in our town hall meetings and leveraging additional platforms for ongoing improvement. |

Meet Ms. Dylinski! By: Jack DeLambo, 9th grade |
|
|
Please welcome new Stacey science teacher Danielle Dylinski to Lackland ISD. She most recently taught at Harlan HS. Ms. Dylinski teaches Biology, AP Environmental Science and Environmental Systems.
When did you start teaching? I started teaching in 2004 in Houston.
What schools have you taught at? I taught for 5 years in Houston ISD at Sam Houston HS and Sharpstown HS, and for 15 years in Northside ISD at Holmes/NSITE HS and Harlan HS. Have you only taught science related classes or have you taught other subjects?
I've only taught science, but I've taught almost every high school science subject other than physics. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Bucks County, PA, right outside of Philadelphia. Where did you go to college ?
I earned a BA in Biological Anthropology at Temple University in Philadelphia and an M.Ed in Science Curriculum and Instruction at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Have you always been a teacher? Is this your first career?
I was a marine biologist before I became a teacher. What is your favorite place that you have visited?
My favorite place so far is Yosemite National Park. Where would you like to visit in the future?
I'd like to go to Yellowstone National Park. I have never been there. I will visiting Japan for the first time this coming spring. If you could have any superpower what would it be? I'd probably like to read minds, but only if I could turn the power on and off at will. If you could bring any activity from one of your old schools to Stacey, what would it be? Baseball! I am a huge baseball fan. THANK You Ms. Dylinski! |
