The 2023 National Women’s History Theme “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories”
The National Women’s History Alliance, which spearheaded the movement for March being declared National Women’s History Month, has announced the women’s history theme for 2023, “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories.”
Throughout 2023, the NWHA will encourage recognition of women, past and present, who have been active in all forms of media and storytelling including print, radio, TV, stage, screen, blogs, podcasts, and more. The timely theme honors women in every community who have devoted their lives and talents to producing art, pursuing truth, and reflecting the human condition decade after decade.
From the earliest storytellers through pioneering journalists, our experiences have been captured by a wide variety of artists and teachers. These include authors, songwriters, scholars, playwrights, performers, and grandmothers throughout time. Women have long been instrumental in passing on our heritage in word and in print to communicate the lessons of those who came before us. Women’s stories, and the larger human story, expand our understanding and strengthen our connections with each other.
As in previous years, the Alliance, which is centered in Santa Rosa, California, will encourage local communities throughout the country to use the year’s theme to guide their own celebrations. The NWHA will popularize national efforts through on-line celebrations, a special magazine and thematic products that recognize and honor these brave, accomplished and influential women who told – and continue to tell – our stories. Today and over the years ahead, their dedication and shared desire to give voice to the voiceless are critical to keeping us informed, entertained and aware.

Lackland ISD has partnered with the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) to examine systems and processes that impact our instructional programs. This independent audit will provide district leadership with findings and recommendations to strengthen district operations. It is most effective when we have input from our parents. We encourage you to share your voice via the survey links provided below and be instrumental in ensuring that Lackland ISD gains insight and solutions to any barriers to continuous improvement. If you have questions regarding this survey, please contact Dr. Tonya Hyde at hyde.t@lacklandisd.net

Lackland ISD is working towards fulfilling our vision, Lackland I.S.D. ignites a passion for life-long learning and empowers excellence, by focusing our attention on some key areas. Positive school culture is one of those areas. Our goal is to, by 2027, 100% of Lackland ISD students and staff will feel safe, valued, and engaged at school. We’ll use several metrics to measure and evaluate our progress. The bi-annual survey is one of those tools. The district positive culture committee has worked together to craft a survey that they believe will inform us of our progress, stagnation, or decline. The survey will be available to parents, students, and staff on March 20, 2023, and will remain open until, March 31, 2023. We are excited to receive your feedback as we work together to accomplish these goals. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Trail Boss: Katen Fredin By: Addison Gajkowski, 9th grade |
|
|
Stacey freshman Katen Fredin moved here from Tucson, AZ over the summer. We interviewed her to find out more about her interesting hobby of mountain biking! What made you start mountain biking? My parents started mountain biking in Tucson, and I decided to try it out.
What is the name of your team? Two-10. What type of course do you ride?
I ride through dirt, water, and rocks but practice in McAllister Park. How many miles do you practice? How many when you compete?
For practice I generally ride 15 miles, and for races it depends. Varsity girls usually ride 15 miles, JV Girls 1 and 2 ride 10 miles, Varsity boys ride 20, while JV boys 1 rides 15 miles and JV 2 rides 10. and middle school rides 5.
Does anyone else in your family bike? My mom is a coach for the team, and my parents used to ride. My little brother is starting next year.
Do you have any other hobbies? I run cross country, track, and I’m also in band. Where do you travel for races? All over Texas. Next year we will travel closer to home, but my competitions can be between 2 and 7 hours away. Have you ever crashed your bike during a race? If so, how bad?
I have but It was a minor crash, I was up again in 20 seconds. Lastly, what is your favorite trail to ride?
My favorite trail to ride is smoother and faster trails instead of rocky, rough terrain.
Team Two10 is comprised of students throughout San Antonio grades 6-12. The season lasts from December to April with optional races for those who wish to compete. The team practices Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings at McAllister Park and along the Leon Creek Greenway trails. For more information or to inquire about joining the team, check out the websites below, send an email to the head coach, Barry Calvert (two10mtb@gmail.com), or reach out to Katen directly.

|
|
Over one billion apps were downloaded in the first nine months they were available from Apple's iTunes: that's 3,703,703 downloads a day!!! The one billionth app was called BUMP. It enabled two iPhone users to download information from one phone to the other by bumping the phones together.
As of June 2010 (13 years ago), the total number of app downloads was more than 5 billion. New apps are being developed at an average rate of more than 309 every day. |

“My Child Needs More Time with the Speech Therapist!”
This is one of the most common requests that I hear from parents of children with autism, and I TOTALLY get where you’re coming from. A speech therapist helps children talk better. You want your child to talk better. It makes sense that increasing the amount of time that your child sees the therapist would help them talk better more quickly, right?
Well, it’s more complicated than that.
