Since our student’s safety is our number one priority, we made the decision to keep the playground closed until we were able to find a contractor to complete the installation of the shade sails. This proved to be more of a challenge than we thought, and we had a difficult time attracting contractors to this particular job. Within the last couple of months, we finally had enough contractors interested in competing for the project and we are happy to report that the LISD Board of Trustees has awarded the contract to Express Contracting during a Special Board Meeting on October 7, 2019. Because the shades will be custom designed, it will take several weeks for them to be manufactured. The contractor has estimated that it will take approximately 100 days to complete the project once it has commenced. Consideration must be given for bad weather days and any unforeseen circumstances. However, our contractor understands that we are anxious to get this project completed. We thank students, parents, teachers, and administrators for your patience. We believe our students will be proud of their new playground once it is completed. Around the District Do you have a degree? Do you hold a teaching certificate in Texas or another state? Students and families participated in an AVID Family night that was open to all students and families, even if the students were not in an AVID elective course, to promote the use of the Focused Note Taking process. Attendees engaged in a lesson that modeled the 5 phases of note taking while learning how to play a card game. Sixth grader, Kamryn Phillips, won the grand prize drawing of 2 Spurs tickets from Mr. Gordon. Keep a look out for our next AVID family event.
We would like to thank the Lackland ISD PTSO for their wonderful donations to the Stacey Library! These books are available for check out! Stacey Happenings On the evening of Wednesday Oct 23rd, representative of Stacey's Bots in Blue were invited to participate in the SATX Robotics Meetup held at Plus One Robotics located in Port San Antonio. The students demonstrated their robot and addressed members of the professional robotics community including: NASA, Southwest Research Institute, Boeing, ROS-Industrial, Plus One Robotics, Renu Robotics, Hatchbed Robotics and many others.
The students were able to hear, first hand, the skills sets needed to have a successful career in robotics. The also received positive feedback on their robotic design and programming skills and practiced professional networking and speaking skills on the highest professional level.
Think Pink! By: Sara Kinney, senior
Due to this month being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Student Council organized a fun-filled Spirit Week, October 15th through 18th, to raise awareness for cancer and support for the girls volleyball teams for their Pink-Out game. Tuesday’s theme of Disney led to students dressed as Mickey Mouse and Snow White filling the halls. Wednesday brought comfort in the form of pajama day, which was needed as 8th through 11th graders took their PSAT. This year, Thursday was given a theme that was a first for Stacey High School: Meme day; 6th through 12th graders referenced their favorite internet jokes and vines through outfits, props, and actions. To correspond with the Pink Out Pep Rally, students decorated themselves in pink through clothes, temporary hair dye, and accessories.
During the Pep Rally, the band and choir performed between games and activities. Volunteers from each grade raced around cones and between hoops in an effort to win the spirit stick. Principal Shelby, Coach Sanchez, and Mrs. Cervantes got the most votes in the pie in the face contest, which meant a face full of whipped cream as students cheered. In the end, the seniors won the high school spirit stick, seventh graders won the middle school spirit stick, and eighth grade won the breast cancer awareness stick.
The varsity girls volleyball team has qualified for the playoffs for the 2019 season!! The girls are currently tied for 2nd place in district 29-AA with a 7-3 record. With 2 games remaining in district play the girls still have some work to do for the best possible seeding. Next game is this Friday October 25, 2019 @ Center Point. The last game of district is vs. Medina on Tuesday October 29th here at Stacey HS. We will also be recognizing our seniors on the 29th so please come out and show your support and school spirit for the girls. The first playoff game will either be November 4th or 5th, more details to come.
