Patriot Day is a solemn observance in the United States, held annually on September 11th to honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 victims who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The day also recognizes the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, as well as the resilience of the American people in the face of such a tragedy. Patriot Day is a time for reflection, remembrance, and unity, as the nation comes together to remember those who were lost and to honor those who continue to serve and protect.
What is Patriot Day?
Patriot Day is a national day of remembrance that commemorates the victims of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and United Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania. Established by a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush in December 2001, Patriot Day serves as a reminder of the impact of that day on the nation and the world. It is a day for Americans to honor the memories of those who perished, to pay tribute to the bravery of the first responders, and to reflect on the values of freedom, democracy, and resilience.

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period. https://www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov/about.html |

Meet Mrs. Ramirez!
By: Raelyn Jacobsen, junior |

|
Please welcome Tanesha Ramirez to our campus this year! She teaches 7th grade ELA, ELA Honors and ELA Lit. Lab. Where did you grow up?
I’m from an Army family so it’s a bit hard to say where I “grew up” since we moved so much, but the place I spent the majority of my childhood was Killeen/Fort Cavazos, Texas (formally Fort Hood) What’s your initial impression of Stacey?
My initial impression of Stacey was that it was so much smaller than my previous campus. It has been really refreshing to have smaller class sizes and more of a “small town” feel. Everyone is so welcoming and it really feels like a community here.
How long have you been teaching? This is my 8th year teaching.
Where'd you go to college? I went to UTSA for my undergrad in interdisciplinary studies (ELAR/SS 4-8 gr) and I am currently in graduate school also at UTSA (School Counseling). Do you have siblings? Yes, I have one older brother.
Where's the best place you've visited? I think the best place I have visited would be Yucatán, Mexico. I went on a cruise for my honeymoon and this was one of the stops. It was so beautiful! What's your favorite place to eat out? I love “American” food. So pretty much any place that sells wings, fries, sandwiches etc. My favorite is Pluckers. What do you enjoy doing outside of school? Outside of school, I watch a lot of crime TV shows, reading mystery or romance books, or playing with my beautiful 2 year old daughter.
Thank you Mrs. Ramirez! |

2024-2025 Parent and Family Engagement Sessions Navigating Special Education Through The Legal Framework Tuesday, September 17, 2024 Session # 101152
9am-11am Virtual session # 103368
Ever feel a bit overwhelmed with all the processes, procedures, and requirements that come along with having your child in school? You are not alone. Come learn more about a parent resource that is valuable in ensuring that parents have user-friendly access to this type of information. The Legal Framework is a very specialized type of resource. Its focus is on a special education process that is child centered. It offers an outline, and a shortened summary, of all the legal requirements that come from the federal level—applicable to all states--and those for the state of Texas. In this session, parents will learn about and explore the Legal Framework and Parent Resources available.
Parent Cafés: Protective Factor--Resilience
Thursday, September 19, 2024 Session # 101155 *9am - 11:30am
(In-person only)
During this session parents will be introduced and discuss parental resilience. Parenting is being strong and flexible. As parents, to deal with the stressors of life, we need to be strong, flexible, and we need to be able to bounce back when adversity hits. When we as parents are psychologically and emotionally healthy, we are better able to consider long-term solutions instead of just reacting to every situation as it comes up. This session is presented by community partner Rebecca Ulloa, the Early Childhood Systems Building Program Manager at University Health.
