The Importance of Voting This year, our school district is encouraging our employees to make their voices heard by voting in both the March primaries and the November general election. I also hope that members of our community other than our employees will exercise your civic responsibility to vote.
I especially want to note that the March 5 Texas primary elections are fast approaching, giving all of us a critical opportunity to decide who will be on the ballot in November. When you register to vote in Texas, you do not register as a member of one party or another. As a result, Texas has what is known as an open primary, which means that any registered voter can choose to vote in either party’s primary election — regardless of how you have voted in the past.
Only 18 percent of registered Texas voters participated in our state’s last primary, which was in March 2022. In other words, most voters do not participate in these often-decisive elections.
If you are not registered to vote, please register by the February 5 deadline. Early voting begins on February 20 and lasts until March 1, while Election Day is March 5. I also encourage you to vote in any runoff elections that will be held later in the spring in elections where no candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote in the primary. Voter turnout in runoff elections is typically even lower than in primaries.
You can register to vote or learn more about how and where to vote at votetexas.gov. Please take the time to exercise your right to vote. Voting is one of the best ways to directly impact the future of our state, our community, and our public schools. |

Stacey Homecoming Day Images |
|
|
Flashback: Ariann Turpeau by: Leigha Beatty, sophomore |
|
|
Ariann attended Stacey for all four years of high school, graduating in 2017. She is now a social worker (Early Childhood Lead Clinician 1) at Family Service Association of San Antonio.
When did you attend Stacey? From 2010- 2017 (8th grade to graduating)
2.What was your favorite memory you made here? My favorite memory was being part of homecoming court my senior year.
3.What sports did you do while you went here, if any? I did cross country and track for all 4 years of high school.
4.Where did you go to college, and what was your degree in?
I went to Northwest Vista before transferring to Lamar University (Beaumont, TX) and graduating with a Bachelor’s of Social Work. I then went on to earn my Master’s of Social Work at UTSA in 2022.
5.Which teacher made the biggest impact on you? The teacher that had the biggest impact would have to be Dr. Stiller, the way she conducted her classroom and created all her worksheets/notes from hand has always stuck with me. 6.Is there anything you regret not doing before you graduated?
I regret not going out of my comfort zone a little bit more, participating in activities or classes I normally wouldn't have. 7.Where do you work now, and what is your favorite part of your job? I currently work at a non- profit as a licensed Master Social worker, where I provide behavioral interventions to children ages 0 to 8. My favorite part of the job is seeing the relieved look on parents faces once they see the positive effects we’ve been working on. 8.Do you still talk to any of your friends from high school? I talk to a few friends from high school and the rest I just keep up with on social media.
Thank you Ariann! |

Lackland Elementary had it's first meeting of the Multiculture Club on Wednesday, January 24th, 2024. Mrs. Sahin was our guest speaker who spoke about her country Turkey. She was so sweet and kind to share her culture with us. She brought Turkish treats and brought bracelets with the nazar boncugu which is known as the evil eye. We can’t wait to meet again next week. |

Spring Assessments
*Assessments for Gifted and Talented will begin this month for Kindergarten students who submitted a referral by the due date of November 30, 2023. *Assessments for other students will follow by grade level. Icon of the Month-Over Time |
|
|
|
The "Over Time" icon encourages students to examine a topic over multiple time periods. Don't just make a list of changes! Instead, add layers of complexity by comparing and contrasting two or three topics over the same time periods, offer observations and explanations, or consider hypothetical changes for the future! Sentence Starters for Over Time: What aspects of the past affect _____ in the present, and how will it possibly be affected in the future? How has our understanding of _____ changed over time? How does the passage of time affect our study of _____? What aspects of the past affect _____ in the present, and how will it possibly be affected in the future? How has our understanding of _____ changed over time? How does the passage of time affect our study of _____? |

Monday, January 29, 2024 8:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Psychological First Aid, Part 2
Psychological First Aid (PFA) is an evidence-informed modular approach to help children, adolescents, adults, and families in the immediate aftermath of
traumatic events. Traumatic events may be defined as various natural disasters, public health emergencies, campus tragedies, as well as personal crisis situations.
Individuals affected by a disaster or traumatic incident, whether survivors, witnesses, or responders to such events, may struggle with or face new challenges
following the event. PFA is built on the concept of human resilience. The model covers eight core actions on how to assist survivors of traumatic events
by addressing survivors’ and responders’ needs and concerns, reduce the initial distress caused, and foster short- and long-term adaptive functioning and coping.
Presented by The Center for Health Care Services. Session # 97590
Wednesday, January 31, 2024 9:00 a.m.–10:30 a.m.
Why ‘New’ Math isn’t New and Why Parents Shouldn’t be Afraid of It When you look at math curriculum or at explanations
of math strategies, it may seem like math has changed from what you learned as a kid. Despite what it may look like, math hasn’t really changed, but kids are now
tasked with gaining a deeper understanding of why math works. For those who want to help their children with math homework, these ‘new’ approaches can be
confusing, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Session # 94725
