Attention: Any students in grades 6-11 interested in running Cross Country or playing Volleyball in the Fall, there will be an informational meeting in the gym at 3:30 on May 19, 2021. Please contact Coach Flores (flores.m@lacklandisd.net), Coach Rigney (rigney.d@lacklandisd.net), or Coach Sanchez (sanchez.c@lacklandisd.net) if you have any questions.

Recently, nine members of the Stacey Jr/Sr High School choirs participated in virtual region choir auditions where they had to submit recordings of their audition music to be judged.  Participating students included 7th graders Addison Gajkowsky and Cailynn Lanier along with 8th graders Bailey Forte, Breanna Schoolcraft, Kylie Youkey, Danielle Yarbrough, Kyrie Yarbrough, Jeran Smith and Christian Orencia.  Singers who earned chairs in the region choir include Jeran (2nd chair tenor), Danielle (8th chair alto), Christian (9th chair baritone) and Breanna (28th chair alto).  Congratulations to these outstanding singers on a great job!

The Stacey Jr/Sr High bands and choirs will present their annual Spring Concert, “A Breath of Fresh Air,” on Thursday, May 20 at 5:30 pm.  Bands and choirs will be set up OUTSIDE under the covered pavilion on the Stacey campus facing the long walkway toward the bus circle.  Parents, family and friends are encouraged to bring your own lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an evening of music outside.

Last week, in a contest sponsored by HS Student Council, over 100 Stacey students voted for their favorite teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week. Congratulations to Mr. Hernandez, Ms. Brock, Ms. Strahan, Ms. Boots, Ms. Pastrano, and Ms. Prescher for winning the student voting contest! The teachers who won received a letter of appreciation, a certificate, and a $10 HEB gift card.

Congratulations to our runner-up teachers as well (Ms. Torre, Ms. Cervantes, Mr. Staples, Ms. Gateley, Ms. Cotnam, Ms. Chan, and Ms. Huerta!)

Every week should be teacher appreciation week. Thank you to all of our teachers for everything that you do, especially during this difficult school year!

Stacey's Fiesta Photo Booth!

S2S and JS2S hosted a game day after school for the students at Stacey Junior/Senior High School on Thursday.  Those that attended picked board games and card games to play with their friends.  There were a few students who enjoyed playing Loteria for some fun prizes.  S2S members also provided popcorn and drinks for everyone and the weather was perfect.  It was fun and relaxing time for all.

On Thursday of last week, as students at Stacey Jr/Sr High celebrated teacher appreciation week, students got to dress up as their favorite teacher.

Congratulations Ms. Rabidas!

by: Ariana Flores, senior

The Trinity Prize is one of San Antonio’s oldest and more prestigious teaching awards, distributed since 1982. The award recognizes teachers outstanding classroom performance, leadership, their contributions to the school, and outstanding community services. This year our very own high school math teacher Danielle Rabidas is the Lackland ISD nominee for the award.

Ms. Rabidas teaches AP Calculus, Algebraic Reasoning, Pre-Cal, Financial Math and Algebra II Honors.  She found out about the award when asked by principal Shelby if she would accept the nomination and had later found out she won for the school in an email.  Ms. Rabidas  previously attended Stacey as a student and was asked how she felt winning such a high award after coming back to work for the school. “It is amazing to be able to come back to my Alma Mater and be able to give so much back to the school that gave me so much knowledge and experience...” she explains. Ms. Rabidas was also a military kid when she attended Stacey and enjoys meeting all these kids that come and go because she feels she understands their lives and knows what it’s like growing up and a “military brat”.

Although Ms. Rabidas still waits to find out the final award, she leaves advice for any teachers who wish to achieve such an award like this. She states “...be sure to contribute what you can to your school and the surrounding community. It is very rewarding to give more than required and see the students and school benefit from your time and effort.” She also adds, “Always strive to do your best and always keep the students best interest at heart.”

Oceans cover more than 70 percent of the earth's surface and are home to some of the deepest valleys and tallest mountains in the world.  They have a lot of influence on the weather and are jam-packed with life---yet much of them remain a mystery.

The earth's oceans are all connected to form one gigantic body of water which is sometimes known as the global ocean.  Geographers have divided the global oceans into five enormous oceans.  In order of size, the are the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian, the Southern-or Antarctic- and the Arctic.

The five oceans include many smaller parts known as seas.  Most seas are partly enclosed by land, but each sea is part of one of the oceans.  One of  the largest seas is the South China Sea in Asia.  It is more than 1,158,000 square miles in size and is part of the Pacific Ocean.  Another word that describes part of an ocean is gulf.  The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, for example, are both parts of the Atlantic Ocean.  Some inland saltwater lakes, such as the Dead Sea in Israel, are also called seas, because the water is so salty.

Ferdinand Magellan, the first explorer to sail around the world named the Pacific in 1519.  Pacifica means peaceful in Portuguese, Magellan's native language.  The Pacific is anything but a peaceful ocean!!!

The Industrial Revolution is a term describing major changes in the economic and social structure of many western countries in the 1700s and 1800s.  At the beginning of the 1700s, most of Europe's people lived and worked on the land.  By the time the 1800s ended, most Europeans were city dwellers, earning a living in factories or offices.  As work became unavailable on the land, huge numbers of Europeans migrated overseas, particularly to America.  The political map of Europe was also redrawn during this period.  Revolutions overtook the continent from the 1820s to the 1870s. They swept away states ruled by hereditary families (passed down through family generations) and replaced them with NEW nations based on shared history, culture, and language.  The European powers also worked to win new colonial terrtitories in Africa and to extend their empires in Asia and the Pacific.

In the 1700s, a revolution also took place in British farming.  Jethro Tull's seed drill and improved plows raised the standard of cultivation.  Animals that in an earlier age would have been slaughtered in the winter were now kept alive on root crops.  Between 1700 and 1800, the yield of wheat doubled.  Selective breeding meant larger, healthier livestock.

Timeline:

*1787:  In the United States, John Fitch demonstrates the first workable steamboat.

*1789-1815:  France's Industrial Revolution was stopped by war.

*1833:  British Factory Act bans children under the age of nine from working in factories

Dear Parents and Guardians of current Sixth Graders,

In order to comply with Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements, all students entering Seventh Grade are required to have the following immunizations:

1 dose of Tetanus, Diptheria and acellular pertussis (Tdap) if at least 5 years have passed since the last dose of tetanus-containing vaccine.

1 dose of Quadrivalent Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV4 or MenACWY) on or after 10th birthday

Often, a child has received immunizations and we do not have a copy of their most updated immunization record.  The record on file for your child does not indicate the two vaccines above.

If your child has an updated immunization record, you may submit it directly to the e-mails listed below.

If your child will be attending Lackland ISD during the 2021 - 2022 school year, you may have them vaccinated at your earliest convenience now,  and bring or send proof before the end of this school year so we can update our records.

Students without proper documentation or a valid exemption will not be allowed in class on the first day of school August 16, 2021 until we receive updated immunizations.

If you have any questions, please call us at (210) 357-5040.
