Before we let 2020 out into the cold Stop and acknowledge all that has happened Remember both the lives lost and the appreciation for life gained Our mistakes and the costs that come with them And the times we realized how much it will take to fix it Because that is what’s most important Getting another chance To be better To see our flaws To ban together To change our ways And to make a better future Start looking out to the world and appreciating all it has to offer So when we finally emerge from the chaos of 2020 Let’s remember to acknowledge all we’ve had To embrace change And to keep moving forward

Before we celebrate the new year that has come, let’s stop and reflect on the terrible, terrible thing that the world brought us- the COVID-19 pandemic. Nobody saw it coming, we had no idea what to expect, this was something we were definitely not ready for. But though it has been hard, we have managed to pull through, and we got through the year. Let’s remember all the hardships that this pandemic brought, our schools closing, businesses shut down, economic disaster, masks! How it affected ourselves and our families, and our friends. Though we lost so much, let’s start and think about everything we have gained, and everything good that we’ve managed to find in the midst of the pandemic, and everything we will do this year to get out of this horrible situation we are in. This new year is giving us that second chance to do better, not just for ourselves, but for everyone. To reflect on all our missteps and hardships the pandemic caused, and to apply those into the new year, so we make it better, so we triumph over the virus, and we can get everything back to way it used to be and more.

Question: What is the largest land animal on Antarctica? Hint: It is not the penguin. Penguins are considered marine animals because they spend most of their time at sea. No. It is not a polar bear. Polar bears live in the Arctic. Give up? It's a wingless midge. Reaching only 0.08 to 0.2 inches (2 to 6 millimeters) long, this tiny insect probably wouldn't fly much even if it had wings. The strong endless winds of Antarctica would constantly overpower its flight. In one day, it may live one-tenth of its entire 10-to-14 day adult life.
Happy Hibernation!!!
Who says bears do not have fun in Alaska?!? Meet 747, an Alaskan brown bear whose wide body would not fit down the aisle of a 747 Jumbo Jet. He was named the winner of the Fat Bear Week votes from September 30 to October 6, 2020. He was the proclaimed the paws-down favorite over his final opponent, Chunk.
The annual online competition is a fun and effective fundraiser and awareness tool for the Katmai Conservancy, the official nonprofit partner of Katmai National Park and Preserve on the Alaska Peninsula. The competitors hung out at Brooks Falls throughout the summer to feast on sockeye salmon in preparation for winter hibernation. During that months-long time, bears lose one-third of their body weight, so building up fat reserves helps them survive. Katmai provided before-and-after photos and descriptions of each bear to help the human voters make informed choices during the single-elimination tournament.
In the wild, big bulky bears dominate prime fishing spots, and yes, even catch the eye of the lady bears. Holly, one of the female bears, took the 2019 title, delightfully described as somewhat resembling "the shape and color of a toasted marshmallow".
And 747? His sheer size, estimated last year at 1,400 pounds and probably equaled in 2020, made him the people's ultimate pick!!!!
