Lackland ISD Parents/Guardians,
This is to inform you of a practice change in medication administration on campus beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.
In past years, Lackland ISD nursing staff have administered over-the-counter medication supplied by a student’s parent/guardian with parent/guardian consent and have not required physician, podiatrist, or dentist authorization. The Texas Board of Nursing has given guidance to school nurses regarding this practice, and over-the-counter medications will no longer be given by licensed nursing staff WITHOUT a physician, podiatrist, or dentist authorization AND parent authorization.
If your student needs over-the-counter medications, nursing staff will require a physician, podiatrist, or dentist authorization in order to administer the medication in accordance with the Texas Board of Nursing licensing standards. The medication form is linked here.
We understand this is a shift in previous practice, and we will continue to support our students’ health and learning needs while at school while incorporating this practice standard. Should you have any questions, please reach out to Lackland ISD nursing staff: Erika Adams, RN adams.e@lacklandisd.net 210-357-5040

4th and 5th grade students participated in a major art exhibition with their art teacher Mr. Garcia over the Summer at the San Antonio Central Library Gallery. Student's designed a ceramic mask cast from a local San Antonian and based their character on a variety of topics. Many students came to the opening and the show ran for 5 weeks. The piece the kids collaborated on is now on display at the Brook Hollow public library for the next two months. It will then travel to other branches in the San Antonio public library system. What an opportuntity for our students artwork to be showcased in such a manner. The piece will eventually end up at LISD's media center.
The San Antonio Express News did a wonderful story on the exhibit! Great job Lackland Elementary! *Express News Article Online Brookhollow Public Library |

Welcome Back
As we begin our 2024-2025 school year, I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to all of our new families to Lackland ISD. I am the District Gifted and Talented Facilitator and it is my pleasure to collaborate with a team of experienced and enthusiastic educators who serve our students daily. As always, your student’s classroom teacher(s) and building facilitator will be your first, best source of information and answers, but please know that I am also here if I can help in any way. This school year begins my 28th year in education, my 25th in the field of gifted education. We plan and hope to publish “GT Corner” monthly so please watch the newsletter on Fridays. While some issues will concentrate on the social-emotional needs of gifted students, others will take a more academic focus. Although many articles we find for you will be applicable to all ages of gifted students, we may have times where we publish a more secondary leaning article along with one geared towards our elementary age students. If you need me, I can be reached by email at johnson.v@lacklandisd.net or via phone at 210-357-5016. Vickie Johnson M.Ed., Gifted and Talented Facilitator.

9am-11am Virtual session # 103400
(Zoom only)
In this session, we will discuss the impact of ACEs and how it transcends the traditional boundaries of health and human service systems. The first step toward healing comes with understanding the problem. Our words and our commitment are vital to the future we all want for our children. The goal of this session is to develop a common language and common understanding about how experiences shape our well being. (This session is repeated on 2/13/25.)
