Lackland Elementary Teacher Kristy Archibald Recognized as Trinity Prize Winner

On Friday, May 6, 2022, Mrs. Kristy Archibald was recognized as the Trinity Prize Winner representing Lackland ISD.  The Trinity Prize is a coveted honor that recognizes outstanding teachers in school districts across the San Antonio area.  Mrs. Archibald is a veteran teacher of 22 years, and she currently teaches our wonderful Kindergarten students.  We are extremely honored and fortunate to have Mrs. Archibald on the Lackland Elementary teaching staff and we certainly appreciate her dedication to our students.  This was a well-deserved honor.  Trinity prize winners received a $500 cash prize, a year’s worth of Whataburger (wow!), and a $250 Amazon gift card to spend in her classroom or any program supporting the campus. Each recipient also received an official congratulations from Mayor Ron Nirenberg. Congratulations to Mrs. Archibald! We are very proud of you!

Robotics at the Air Show

By: Anna Williams (9th), and Sandra Williams (11th)

Stacey robotics demonstrated their robots at the air show last month with wonderful success as they inspired kids to learn more about STEM and robotics. The FRC Bots in Blue team and FTC Marvel✯✯Us team excelled this year, as both advanced to the state championship. Our other FTC teams, long-time Bots in Blue and our rookie team, Robo Eagles, also did an excellent job, with Robo Eagles taking home the Judges Award. Stacey took home five robotic awards in total this year. All the teams did a wonderful job overcoming difficult challenges with teamwork and creative

thinking, and they learned many valuable skills that will help them to excel in their future. But, thanks to their wonderful coach, Mr. Kinsey, they built more than robots this year; they made memories and shaped their futures.

If you are interested in joining one (or more) of the robotics teams next year or you're just curious, stop by after school on Tuesdays or Thursdays to see the robotics lab and talk to Mr. Kinsey or one of the students. Hope to see you at robotics next year! :)

Penguin's Southern Ocean Paradise

Instead, they want the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans to claim this area of the globe.  However, MOST geographers agree to make space on the map for the Southern Ocean, which extends north from the coast of Antarctica to 60 degrees south latitude.

But, even this aspect of the ocean provokes "fighting" over a name.  Some Australian geographers say it extends ALL the way to Australia's shores.  Let's get this worked out, once and for all!

Here is more surprising information about this chilliest of oceans:

The Southern Ocean has the coldest waters of all the oceans.

It is the LEAST SALTY of the oceans.

Penguins like to swim in the Southern Ocean.

The Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) flows west to east around Antarctica and is the strongest ocean current in the world.

Elementary Happenings

The elementary specials team (Theatre, Art, Music, P.E. Library, and Technology) thank you for a great year!

On Monday Kindergarteners in Ms. Mendez's class planted grass head plants. The kids enjoyed getting their hands dirty and planting their seeds. We will observe our plants daily and write in our journals. This cross-curricular  activity covers, reading, writing, science and social emotional topics.

In a few days, ask your child how their plant is doing and if they have noticed any changes yet.

Kinder Fun with Trinity award winner Mrs. Archibald!

Third graders did Fairy Tales: Reader’s Theater this morning. The kids had a great time. They created the props and put on the play for the class. We had three groups and three plays: Three Billy Goats Gruff, Little Red Riding Hood, and Hansel and Gretel.
