Ms. Gray's English III Class recently finished an Identity Unit.  After exploring symbolism inherent in traditional coats of arms, students synthesized tradition with modernity to create their own personal symbol/coat of arms, which Michaela Edging and Ysa Marx did beautifully.

Operation Shoebox Service Project

Alternate text

If you are looking to make an impact on a child living in a world of uncertainty and need, Ms. Duron’s Community Service Class has an opportunity for you. We will be donating to Samaritan's Purse, a charity that collects and sends (wrapped) shoeboxes full of essentials and useful items to less fortunate areas of the world. Participating is easy! Go to samaritanspurse.org/occ to find detailed information about what to include in the shoeboxes; toys, school supplies, non-liquid hygiene items, crafts, accessories, and small personal notes and photos of yourself to help personalize the experience for the child. A $9 donation is also encouraged to help cover the long-distance shipping costs. If you cannot shop for items to fill a box, that’s okay! Donations can be dropped off at Mrs. Duron’s classroom, the drop off deadline is November 18. Our goal is 100 boxes, so tell your friends and family as well!  You can also donate money to go towards shipping costs or make an online shoebox for $25.   The link to make an online shoebox is:  https://build-a-shoebox.samaritanspurse.org/goal/view/abb9d4f9-b226-449e-a5a6-88eea96c4e69 Again, please drop off any donations on or before November 18 in order to get them to the children’s communities in time!

Here is your chance to honor a veteran! The Stacey S2S club is selling wreaths that will be placed on a veteran's grave on December 19th. Each wreath is only $15. Not only will you be honoring a veteran, but you are helping our club with our ONE and ONLY fundraiser this year. The main mission of s2s (student 2 student) is to welcome and help the new student transition into our school. It always helps to have a little $ to splurge on our new eagles. You can buy online with the link provided, but if you would like to place one on a particular grave, please reach out to Mrs. Duron at duron.e@lacklandisd.net as this type of purchase requires a different transaction.

The early American colonists' recipe for pumpkin pie:

1.  Cut off the top of the pumpkin

2.  Remove seeds

3.  Fill with milk, honey, and spices

4.  Place in hot ashes for a few hours to bake

Pumpkin Facts:

Pumpkins are native to the Americas.  Pumpkins grow on ground-hugging vines that can grow more than 6 inches a day (15 centimeters) during their peak growth spurt.  Each pumpkin plant produces male and female flowers.  The flowers are the same color, but the male flowers grown on long stems, are the first to bloom, and are more plentiful.  The female flowers grow closer to the main vine and produce the pumpkin.

Pumpkin pie and whipped cream...always a favorite!
