Admin Alley Lackland ISD Recognizes Mrs. Joy Crawford The 2019-2020 Trinity Prize Nominee for Excellence in Education Each year, Lackland ISD along with other school districts in Bexar County have an opportunity to nominate a teacher who exemplifies excellence in education. This year’s nominee for Lackland ISD was our very own fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Joy Crawford. Mrs. Crawford has served as an elementary teacher for over eight years. She is passionate about having a positive impact on students. She contributes her success to the personal growth she has realized due to investments that her elementary teachers made in her life. Joy expresses a great sense of gratitude that she can continue her service to the country by serving military-connected students as their teacher. This is a continuation of her personal military service and support of her husband who also served in the military. The Trinity Prize launched in 1982 to honor public school teachers who are set apart in their teaching practice through outstanding classroom performance, leadership in the school and school district, contributions to the education profession, and stellar community service. Each prize recipient receives $2,500 and a crystal apple. This year 17 finalists were recognized.

We Salute You!!! Salute to nurses is an annual program that mobilizes area hospitals, clinics, schools, and patients to nominate San Antonio’s most outstanding nurses. This year, both of our Lackland ISD nurses were nominated for their outstanding support of our students and their health and social-emotional needs. Each nominee is recognized in a special publication. This year’s publication will be provided on June 7, 2020, in the Express News. Each of our nurses provides exemplary care to members of our learning organization. The services of Mrs. Conte were selected by the panel prompting them to recognize her as one of the Top 10 nurses from over 100 nominees. We are extremely proud of both Mrs. Morales and Mrs. Conte for their outstanding contributions and for taking care of our students so that they can be better prepared to attend to academic and social-emotional opportunities. Hello Parents, You should receive an email requesting your participation in LISD’s spring survey. The purpose of the survey is to gain insight into the social-emotional well-being of our LISD family. If your child is in 3rd-5th grade we are also requesting their feedback as well. Please note that while this is completely optional, your participation will enable us to provide targeted support. Below I’ve provided the link to the survey and a multi-use access code if you are unable to access it via the emailed link. Your child will use the same link to access the survey but will use their Student ID as the access code.

Senior Scores at UIL
The pandemic cancelled all of the regular UIL academic events for the year, but high school students across Texas were able to compete online in a modified UIL Academic At-Home experience. Normal district lines were thrown out and participation was in groups of schools from across the state. The Stacey group included students from Denver City, Ropes and Hico high schools. Senior Sara Kinney competed in journalism events and won four medals; she placed 2nd in Feature Writing and 3rd in Headline, Editorial and News Writing! A big thanks to LISD UIL Coordinator, Ms. Christi Larkins for helping facilitate Stacey’s participation and competition group placement with other Texas schools.
Child Development students learned the benefits of board and card games when it comes to the development of children. Not only does it help in social development, but also cognitive thinking. Students had to host a family game night and create a movie trailer documenting the experience.

Senior - Alyssa Maloy
Dear past self, My final year of high school as a senior did not goes as I thought it was going to go. The advice I would have given myself would have been to always stay focused and to finish your work on time. Don’t procrastinate until the last minute, it’ll definitely bite you in the butt. Pay attention, it’s very important, I know you may not think it is, but trust me things will most definitely go in one ear and out the other. Always and continue to try your best, go all out if you have to, overdoing something is better than not doing good enough. Some things I wish I would have done would have to be, taking my time on work and the projects I was given and to not rush through, to always make things presentable. If I were to have done that for every project and task I was given who knows the difference in grades I would have received on certain assignments. I wish I would have known that senioritis is no joke and that senior year goes by faster than you think. They aren’t lying. I also wish I would have participated more in school events and went all out when it came to spirit weeks. I think this pandemic will affect our future hopefully more on the positive side. Ever since it started more people have been more cautious about washing their hands and being more on the “clean” side. But I also think people don't know how people that could have it, may affect you and your family. This pandemic has caused a good amount of stress for my family and me, and the rest of the world. Who knows what and how people will act after everything goes back to somewhat normal. Things I would suggest that kept me busy during this long and terrible time of worries were spending a lot of time with my family, doing puzzles, and baking a lot. Spending time outside in my backyard doing activities with my sisters, and just spending quality time with everyone.
Any student that will be in grades 7-12 next year and who wants to run Cross Country next fall, scan the QR code to join the Canvas Cross Country course. I will give out information and training plans from here. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Coach Rigney at rigney.d@lacklandisd.net
The Summer Solstice occurs during summer. This is the June Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the December Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. Depending on the shift of the calendar, the Summer Solstice occurs sometime between June 20 and June 22 in the Northern Hemisphere and between December 20 and December 23 in the Southern Hemisphere. The same dates in the opposite hemisphere are referred to as the Winter Solstice. Since prehistory, the Summer Solstice has been celebrated by festivals and rituals. Traditionally, in many temperate regions (especially Europe), the summer solstice is seen as the middle of summer and is referred to as "midsummer". Today, however, in some countries and calendars, it is seen as the beginning of summer.
Enjoy your Summer Celebrations with friends and family!
