Superintendent Welcome for the 2020-2021 School Year

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! Our theme for this school year is “Lackland ISD Cares”.  The COVID-19 pandemic has made us change the way we think about almost everything. During these difficult and challenging times, please know that the safety of our students and our staff will always be our priority.  We began our school year on Monday, August 17 with the first four weeks of the school year using 100% remote instruction. Depending on COVID-19 conditions, we have the option to extend remote instruction for an additional four weeks. This decision will be made by our school board. We know that at some point during this school year, some of our students will return for face-to-face instruction and we are preparing our campuses for the safest environment possible.

As we begin to welcome students back to our campuses, please know that there will be certain safety precautions that we will be implementing.  These will include health screenings and temperature checks each day. We will also require all students and staff to wear a facemask or face shield for the duration of the school day except for when eating breakfast and lunch. Students choosing to ride our buses must wear a face mask for the duration of the bus ride.  We will also be enforcing social distancing both in and out of class.  We are asking that parents please monitor the health of your child(ren) and please do not send them to school if they are sick. We will have protocols in place to address any possible or confirmed COVID-19 cases. We have established a temporary isolation facility which will be located in the lobby of the LISD auditorium. We are working on a permanent isolation facility that will be housed next to the elementary Teacher Resource Activity Center or TRAC.

We realize that this school year will have its challenges. We are finalizing protocols for our reactions to any COVID-19 cases and will do our best to keep all of our students safe. We ask for your support as we attempt to navigate these uncharted waters.

As a matter of safety, please be aware that our school doors will be locked during the school day. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will be limiting all visitors to our campuses. Please ensure that you make an appointment with the school before arriving. Visitors to campuses must agree to a screening and temperature check before being allowed to attend any campus meetings.  Meetings will also be held virtually, as appropriate.  We ask for your cooperation as we endeavor to provide the safest environment possible for our students and staff.

We have added our 2020-2021 Back to School Safety Guidelines to our COVID-19 webpage located on our website. The guidelines detail our plan to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 for both students and staff. The guidelines are found here: https://www.lacklandisd.net/covid-19.

As a reminder, we are asking all parents to complete the LISD Instructional Choice Declaration form found at https://www.cognitoforms.com/LacklandISD1/LacklandISDInstructionalChoiceDeclaration. This information is important as we plan for face-to-face instruction when the option is offered. We are asking that this form be submitted no later than August 28, 2020.

We are excited about the upcoming school year! We are honored you have chosen to be a part of the Lackland Independent School District family. We have a proud tradition of academic excellence and hope to continue this tradition with your help and support. Our dedicated administrators, teachers, and staff look forward to serving our students and ensuring they have a successful school year.  We recognize and appreciate the sacrifice that the parents of our students make every day as members of the Armed Forces.  Therefore, we strive to provide a learning environment that is safe and nurturing so that parents can focus on their mission.  We wish our students and parents the best during the 2020-2021 school year. God Bless and stay safe!

Dear Parents,

I want to welcome you all back to school year 2020-2021! This is going to be a new adventure for all of us, but we will get through it together. My name is Juazzelyn Barrera, and I am your MCEC Military Student Transition Consultant (MSTC) assigned to Lackland ISD this year! I am excited to be here to support you in all things TRANSITION! This year will require a lot of communication between parents, teachers, students, and staff. I am here to facilitate those meaningful interactions to help you and your student(s) get to where you want to be. If you are looking for information about resources that are available to you as a parent of a military connected Lackland ISD student, I am your person. If I don't know the answer, then I will find the answer for you. Please make sure your information is updated on the Parent Portal. If you are new to the district, please check out the online Registration Page. The district staff and teachers who serve our community will do what we can to make sure your students have as smooth of a transition back to distance learning as they can. In the newsletter this week, you will find some useful tips and videos to help you support your students with the start of the school year. Being a member of a team or participating in individual sports requires a commitment from each person involved. It is the intent of these rules and guidelines to clarify to the student/athlete that his/her involvement and commitment to the sports programs at Stacey must be fulfilled in a manner that will enable and obligate him/her to perform to the best of his/her abilities while honorably representing the school. Moreover, these regulations and policies are intended to help direct participants and to clarify any potential misunderstandings about player expectations and policies concerning athletic team membership.
