Texas Youth Helpline Information
“The Texas Youth Helpline provides free and confidential services to youth, their parents, and other family members of youth in crisis who need help finding a counselor, safe shelter, legal information, and other local referral information, or just someone to talk to.”
Representatives can be contacted by phone, text, or chat and those calling are not required to share their name or address. The Helpline is NOT a reporting hotline and they are not associated with law enforcement or Child Protective Services.

LISTENING — HELPING TO COPE We will listen without judgement. Many of our operators have been through similar situations and can relate.
BRAINSTORMING SOLUTIONS — ACTION PLANNING We can talk with you about your issue, discuss your choices, and help you develop a plan of action.

*Important Links Stacey Happenings Stacey Band Rises to the Challenge by: Maria Orencia, junior
After several long months of preparation, the Stacey Eagle Band participated in the UIL Concert and Sight-reading event on April 20 in the LISD auditorium. They performed a march and 2 other pieces from the PML list, which were "Monterey March" by Karl L. King / arrangement by James Swearin, "Fantasy on an Irish Air" by Richard L. Saucedo, and "Egyptique" by William Owens. After the concert, the band went on to sight read a piece with only 7 minutes of preparation. The Eagle Band earned a 1-2-2, which resulted in an overall score of a 2 in their concert performance and a 1-1-1 in their sight reading performance. With straight 1’s, the band earned a plaque for their sight reading performance. (The UIL gives out scores based on a scale of 1-5; with a 1 meaning the performance was superior and a 5 meaning the performance was poorly done.)
What were some of the things that surprised you when the whole band rehearsed together for the first time? “I guess I was surprised because we stayed together for most of the time, and it seemed like people were watching Mrs. Brock for most of it. The sound definitely surprised me, because I didn’t realize that we would sound that strong together. When you’re at home, you don’t hear most of the band over your sounds unless you turn your volume up loud.” -Caitlyn Baney, 10th grade
What were some of the biggest challenges for coordinating and participating in this year’s UIL Concert and Sight-reading?
“Doing band virtually has been EXTREMELY challenging. The isolation of playing (and singing) on your own is not even close to the same experience of a face-to-face setting. Me not knowing if a student is doing everything correctly is especially frustrating. Only having one rehearsal to try to put things together was nerve-wracking. Also losing key members at the last minutes was a real hurdle. But I am very glad we were able to have the experience!”
The Stacey Jr/Sr High Band performed their UIL Concert and Sight-reading music for three judges last week in the Lackland ISD Auditorium. Even though they were faced with considerable challenges this year, the band played their way to all ones in sight-reading, which earned them a plaque, and a 1, 2, 2 in concert. With many areas bands not being able to compete this year, these ratings are quite an accomplishment. A BIG congratulations to the Stacey High School Band and all of the hard work they have put in this year! -Kathy Brock, Stacey Band Director
Both of Stacey’s competitive robotics teams, Team Marvel✯✯us, and the Bots in Blue, made it to the San Antonio Championship Tournament! The students competed in two rounds of remote judging on Saturday April 24th and will compete with the best teams in the San Antonio area in a grueling head-to-head five-round competition on May 1st.
STACEY Senior Spotlight: Aaliyah Kirton BY: Cayla Bren, junior Aaliyah Kirton has been attending Lackland ISD for 7 years now and she is getting ready to walk that stage! Her time at Stacey has been very memorable thanks to the drama club and all the lifelong friends she has made. She loved performing and competing in theater and now she is planning on going to Texas Lutheran University (in Seguin, TX), majoring in theology and minoring in dramatic media. Aaliyah has made it this far because of the support of her friends and family, staying motivated by remembering that God put her on Earth for a reason. Aaliyah said, “I’d like to thank my parents for being my biggest supporters and the best friends I could ask for. My youth leaders Mr. Trevor and Mrs. Victoria for helping me find my faith and my love for ministry. And to thank Emma Timmins, Hailey Barentine, and Camilla Bush for always being there and for being the best non-related family and Taylor Grider for continuously following her promise of being with me till the end of the line.” Congratulations Aaliyah for making it this far and good luck on your future endeavors!
Meet Mr. Keller by: Jacob Sims, senior
In January of 2009, two things were happening. First, president Obama was being inaugurated. Second, Russell Keller came to Stacey. He teaches AP Computer Science Principles, AP CS-A, CyberSecurity and the Yearbook/Journalism class. He is the coach of Stacey’s CyberPatriot teams and CS & Journalism UIL teams. In the past he has taught Graphic Design, Web Design, Photography, CAD and Journalism 1. Before Lackland ISD and becoming a teacher, Mr. Keller worked as a contractor in the Network Control Center in the COMM Squadron here at Lackland for seven years. Before that, he did cartography work in the old Tobin building near downtown SA. In addition to teaching, Mr. Keller raises cattle on his ranch near the Medina river and he recently retired his duty as a volunteer fireman for LaCoste Fire Dept. He is a graduate of Medina Valley high school and Texas A&M Kingsville.
When did you start leading the yearbook team? In the 2009-2010 school year. That was the blue yearbook with the eagle and the big star on the cover.
mmm, I can play music with a blade of grass and my two thumbs. I’m also an expert at adding the perfect amount of milk to create the ideal ratio in cereal.
The first I remember was a border collie named ‘Shadow’ when I was a kid. More recently, an Australian shepherd mix named ‘Scooter’. We have had a mini-donkey now for about 14 years – ‘Miss Raven’.
A feeling & sense of accomplishment on the drive home that students know more on the way out of the school that they did on the way in. It is a good day if I can help a student become more confident. Above the level of teaching the content, I try to install confidence in the students. If I can do that—make them see and realize that they can write code, solve a complex problem or even take a great picture-there will be no stopping them once they leave Stacey.
Tell us about your family? I am the oldest sibling out of four. I’m married and will be celebrating my 25th anniversary this November. We have two kids, a daughter 21 and a son 19, both in college right now.
1) I’m proud that we all made it through a crazy year relatively unscathed. 2) I’m proud that virtual students and in-person students both learned some things. 3) I’m proud that the CyberPatriot teams did well, with the girl’s team receiving special recognition. 4) I’m proud that a very inexperienced yearbook staff created a book under challenging circumstances that they can all be proud of.
I guess I used to be embarrassed about locking myself out of my classroom and having to cut through Mrs. Cashion’s room, but honestly it happens so often that it does not faze me anymore.
What is the hardest thing about teaching? Staying on top of new content and learning new things and new subjects while managing and taking care of the business side of teaching with grades, plans, assignments, emails…. Some of the content in the cyber curriculum, for example, did not exist when I was in college.
What’s the best thing about being a teacher? Watching the seniors get their diplomas. Another great thing is watching the yearbook staff open the box of yearbooks for the first time when they arrive at the end of the year, seeing many months of work come together into something that they can hold in their hands. THANK YOU Mr. Keller!

In 1206 a new emperor was crowned. His name was Genghis Khan, ruler of the Mongols. These people were nomads who traveleld the great plain of Mongolia, a vast region of central Asia, with their herds of cattle. They were were excellent horsemen and fierce fighters.
Genghis Khan built up a huge army that swept through Asia, capturing enormous areas of land. By 1215, they had reached Beijing in China. When Genghis Khan died, the Mongol Empire stretched from the Yellow Sea to the Caspian Sea. His sons and grandsons went on to invade Russia, Poland, and Hungary.

Dear Parents and Guardians of current Sixth Graders,
In order to comply with Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements, all students entering Seventh Grade are required to have the following immunizations:
1 dose of Tetanus, Diptheria and acellular pertussis (Tdap) if at least 5 years have passed since the last dose of tetanus-containing vaccine. 1 dose of Quadrivalent Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV4 or MenACWY) on or after 10th birthday
Often, a child has received immunizations and we do not have a copy of their most updated immunization record. The record on file for your child does not indicate the two vaccines above.
If your child has an updated immunization record, you may submit it directly to the e-mails listed below.
If your child will be attending Lackland ISD during the 2021 - 2022 school year, you may have them vaccinated at your earliest convenience now, and bring or send proof before the end of this school year so we can update our records.
Students without proper documentation or a valid exemption will not be allowed in class on the first day of school August 16, 2021 until we receive updated immunizations.
If you have any questions, please call us at (210) 357-5040.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs. Marcelle Conte, RN Mrs. Camille Morales, RN E-mail: conte.m@lacklandisd.net E-mail: morales.c@lacklandisd.net

Here is the video our very own Lackland Elementary School Production Club students put together. They worked together to make the instrumental, write the lyrics, record the vocals, and edit the video. I asked them what they wanted to make a song about? I challenged them to try and make it relevant and positive and this what the came up with 😊 Mr. Payne
