NATIONAL CUSTODIAL WORKER'S RECOGNITION DAY
On October 2nd, National Custodial Worker's Recognition Day encourages appreciation to the employees who keep our schools and workplaces across the nation running smoothly.
Custodial workers operate behind the scenes. They are often under-appreciated for the hard work they do day after day, too. These are the personnel keeping schools, hospitals, office buildings, museums, churches, and other buildings clean and well maintained.
While delivering outstanding services and running a well-maintained building, they contribute to critical first impressions and the success of any business. They're the people we call on to give our brick and mortar businesses a polished look. The bank, schools, and office buildings look organized and presentable because custodial workers efficiently keep everything in top condition.
Additionally, their skill saves businesses and organizations money. Well-maintained carpets and surfaces last longer. Seasonal updates and maintenance help buildings to run more efficiently, too. Custodial workers make sure buildings are ready for each season and running correctly. As a result, the buildings are safer and healthier for those entering them. They also free-up time for the rest of the organization to focus on growing a business, teaching students, or caring for others.
The work is physically demanding. Depending on the position, custodial workers may work varying shifts and possibly in several locations. They may be part of a team or work independently. No matter where they work, this day recognizes their dedication and hard work. If you know a custodial worker, THANK THEM today! Thank you to our amazing custodial team! |

Lackland ISD Shares TASA-CMSi Curriculum Audit Results
Lackland ISD partnered with the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) to conduct a curriculum audit. The purpose of the audit was to provide a roadmap to efficiently and effectively meet the improvement goals outlined in the 2022-2027 LISD Strategic Plan. Lackland Superintendent, Dr. Burnie Roper, also wanted to ensure that district systems and processes are current and appropriately designed to institutionalize continued improvement and effective program sustainability. Preliminary audit findings and recommendations were presented to the LISD Board of Trustees at the August board meeting. A copy of the audit’s executive summary may be found at this link.

Meet Mr. Payne! By: Audrey Upton, freshman |
|
|
Patrick Payne is the new science teacher at Stacey. He teaches Chemistry, Physics & IPC. Mr. Payne most recently taught at Pease MS in NISD. How many years have you been teaching? This is my 27th year teaching, so I have 26 under my belt. Where did you go to school?
I went to three- Southwest Oklahoma University, Incarnate Word for my Masters, and another at Lamar University.
Are you from San Antonio? If not, where are you from? Nope, I’m a military kid. The longest place I have lived was Oklahoma.
Do you have any hobbies? I’m a businessman, I own and operate rental homes.
Do you have any pets? I have four dogs named Roxie, Oatmeal, Romeo, and Hidei.
Describe yourself in three words? industrious, complicated, satisfied
If you could pick one ice cream flavor for the rest of your life what would it be? I would pick Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia because you can take out all the stuff and have just vanilla or just chocolate or you could just have cherry—I want variety. Are you a night owl or a morning person? I am in between. I stay up super late but wake up super early. What’s been your favorite part of Stacey so far?
My favorite part so far has definitely been the students, they are great! If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I would live in Patagonia because it is untouched wilderness. How many schools have you taught at? I have taught at 7 schools, one in Oklahoma and the rest were here in Texas. What is a fun fact about you? I have been to 26 countries, maybe more, and my favorite is the United States. Thank you, Mr. Payne! |

The return to school can be a stressful time, whether it's a child’s first day of kindergarten, a transition to middle or high school, or just the end of the freedoms of summer. It's normal for children to feel anxious about these changes. Here’s how you can help ease their worries:
*Communicate: Encourage your child to express their feelings about going back to school. Acknowledge their fears, make them feel understood, and reassure them that it's perfectly normal to feel anxious about these changes.
*Create Routines: A consistent routine fosters a sense of security in children. Establishing a regular sleep schedule, eating healthy meals, and setting aside time for homework and relaxation can help children adjust to the rhythm of the school year. *Encourage In-person Social Interactions: Facilitate interaction with classmates to rekindle old friendships and make new ones. This may be one of the first years of schooling for many children without the COVID-19 pandemic interrupting normal social interactions. Social relationships can make the transition smoother and more enjoyable.
