Dear Lackland Parents, Students and Community Members, Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! Thank you for choosing Lackland ISD. We hope that both you and your child(ren) will have a positive experience while you are with us. We hope that you will take the time to be involved with our District and support our amazing students. During the 2022-2023 school year, we completed the work on our five-year strategic plan. Our new plan will focus on the following four strands: Highly Effective Instruction Response to Intervention
Family and Community Engagement Positive School Culture
We are hopeful that you will assist us in meeting the goals associated with each of these strands. It will take all of us to help successfully achieve these goals while providing the resources and opportunities for our students to “thrive learn, grow, and excel.” There are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved at the campus and district level to include participation on the Campus Education Improvement Committee (CEIC) and the District Education Improvement Council (DEIC). If you are interested in serving on one of these committees or any other campus based or district committees, please contact your child’s principal. We look forward to working with you!
We will continue our quarterly town halls during the 2023-2024 school year. The purpose of the town hall is for parent and community members to provide input and express any concerns about any of our school programs. These meetings will occur in the Lackland ISD Auditorium from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will be held on the following dates: October 11, 2023, January 17, 2024, and April 3, 2024. In addition, we will also continue the Superintendent’s Advisory Council which will give students the opportunity to provide input and feedback on school programs and activities that affect them.
As we continue to see a rise in COVID cases, we ask that you remain vigilant in taking the necessary precautions to protect yourself and your children. Please do not send your child(ren) to school if you suspect they have COVID. We’d prefer they get well and return to school once they are feeling better. If you have any questions concerning COVID and school procedures, please contact our nurses at 210-357-5036. Finally, Lackland ISD will be celebrating our 70th Anniversary this year. Established in 1953, Lackland ISD has supported and educated thousands of military-connected students who have come through our doors. We are looking forward to another 70 years as we continue to serve the best students in the world! Wishing everyone a great school year! |

Welcome back & Introduction

As we begin our 2023-2024 school year, I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to all of our new families to Lackland ISD. I am the District Gifted and Talented Facilitator and it is my pleasure to collaborate with a team of experienced and enthusiastic educators who serve our students daily. As always, your student’s classroom teacher(s) and building facilitator will be your first, best source of information and answers, but please know that I am also here if I can help in any way. This school year begins my 27th year in education, my 24th in the field of gifted education. We plan and hope to publish “GT Corner” weekly, so please watch the newsletter on Fridays. While some issues will concentrate on the social-emotional needs of gifted students, others will take a more academic focus. Although many articles we find for you will be applicable to all ages of gifted students, we may have times where we publish a more secondary leaning article along with one geared towards our elementary age students. If you need me, I can be reached by email at johnson.v@lacklandisd.net or via phone at 210-357-5016. Vickie Johnson M.Ed., Gifted and Talented Facilitator.
