Lackland ISD held its Annual Cowboy Breakfast this morning. Many parents and students put on their finest western wear and came out to enjoy breakfast, music and a variety of games and activities! It was a tremendous success! Thank you to our amazing cafeteria staff, custodians, and all else who chipped in to make this another memorable event!

The Bots in Blue had a wonderful experience participating in the FTC South San Antonio Metro League Championship yesterday. The competition was a 12 hour culmination event after competing in 24 hours of competition spread over 3 meets against 27 teams from schools across southern Bexar County and adjacent counties.

 

The team finished in 2nd place after 20 matches and made an alliance with the 1st seed to move into the elimination matches. After making a valiant effort, the team was defeated in the finals. However, they did qualify for a regional wildcard event that will take place on Feb 16th at Brandies HS. They were also the highest placing 1A-4A school at the championship and will most likely receive an invitation to the UIL State Championship in Austin April 4-6.

 

The students’ work on effective and innovative programming was recognized by the organizers and were awarded the Control Award for programming excellence.

 

It was a great honor to have Dr. Roper, Dr. Hyde, Mr. Shelby and his son in attendance to support the students and celebrate the fruits of their hard work. Also, Mrs. Huerta stepped up again to help with the team and also volunteered as a referee. She truly goes Above and Beyond.

 

More importantly, many judges and league officials made a point to come to me and express how impressed they were with the demeanor, gracious professionalism, and hard work the team members displayed throughout the entire process. Even after being defeated in the finals, the students’ infectious enthusiasm was on display as they began to dance as a group and were joined by members of many other teams.

 

It was fitting on MLK day to have the content of the students’ character recognized in addition to the accomplishment of their robot.

Stacey Junior High UIL A+ Academics Awards Celebration

 

On Thursday, January 17th, 51 Stacey Junior High UIL A+ Academics students were honored for their work at the District Meet, which was held on December 7th.

Their awesome UIL Academics Coaches presented their students with ribbons, medals, and certificates!

We’re so proud of all of the hard work and dedication from the students and coaches!

On Monday, January 21, 2019, the Bots in Blue made their way to McCollum HS to compete in the South SA Metro Championship of the FTC Rover Ruckus Challenge. While there, the team presented to a panel of judges, speaking about subjects such as their robot, their programming, their team, and their school. After that, the Bots in Blue began to face off against other teams in multiple rounds of matches, eventually rising to the second place spot out of twenty seven teams. Then, they competed in the semi-finals as a part of an alliance, and advanced to the final round. Though they lost the final match, the Bots in Blue will continue and advance to the FTC Regional Wildcard Meet in February. They also returned home with two trophies: the Finalist Alliance Trophy, for advancing to the final round alongside their alliance, and the Control Award, for the robot’s innovative and efficient programming code. Good job Bots in Blue and good luck in February!

Law and Regulations
This training will provide an exploration of several
websites that contain resources regarding the rights and
responsibilities of stakeholders in Special Education.
These websites contain information regarding eligibility
for services, legal references and materials outlining the
dispute process when schools and parents cannot reach
an agreement in an ARD Committee meeting. This training
will familiarize parents with these sites, explore some of the
content and demonstrate how to use some of the reference
materials provided.

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention for Parents and
Caregivers: Sharing strategies from your child’s
school that you can use at home.
This training provides parents and caregivers with an
overview of the concepts and strategies taught in the
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training program used by
schools that can help in the continuity of support and care.
This training will provide parents with insights into behavior
patterns of their children and an action plan with immediate
strategies. Please note that this training will not include
physical restraint strategies.
