Parents/Guardians – We Need Your Support to Obtain Federal Funding

Lackland ISD receives federal funds through the US Department of Education under the Impact Aid Program. This federal funding is a major portion of our annual operating budget.

Each school year the district must select a survey date and report all students enrolled on that date whether they are living on or off-base. Our survey date for this school year is September 26, 2019.

Base housing officials certify the residency of all on-base students. However, a parent/guardian for off-base students must complete and submit an Impact Aid Survey form to their child’s school no later than Monday, December 16, 2019.

A letter was sent to the parent/guardian of all off-base students last week with the Impact Aid Survey form. If you are the parent/guardian of an off-base student and have returned your child’s form, we thank you! If you have not submitted your survey form yet, please submit to your child’s campus no later than Monday, December 16, 2019.

Thank you in advance for your help in completing this very important process to obtain funding for our schools.

All Four Stacey CyberPatriot Teams Reach Top Tier

by: Jack Macfarlane, senior

After the state-round competed  last Friday, December 6th, the CyberPatriot XII competition has been a record breaker for Stacey’s four teams. Based on the first two rounds competed in, all four teams were ranked platinum, the highest of the four tiers, including our all-girls team for the very first time. When fixing vulnerabilities, security systems, and resolving problems, the teams are usually dealing with virtual images of Windows 10, a version of Ubuntu, and a version of Windows Server. On top of these, they’re expected to work on Cisco Packet Tracer, and take a quiz. The aggregate score is what ranks them into a tier of bronze, silver, gold, or platinum.

Our teams this year are as follows:

You’re Killin’ Me Smalls--Conner O’Malley (captain), Sam Gagnon, Andrew Smalls, Sebastian Vargas, Alex Thompson, and Gareth Thompson;

Cyber Syrens--Allison Flores (captain), Kelsie Traxler, Charla Gloria, Lila Lowrance, Lauren Sawvell, and Taylor Copeland;

I Only Wear Grucci--Ethan Brown (captain), Parker Archibald, Adrian Joma, Adam Kinney, and JR Gafford;

NUBS 101--Sara Kinney (captain), Catie Traxler, Jack Macfarlane, Jacob Gamboa, Mark Dombrowski, and Taylor Grider.

A big thanks to our mentors from the 92COS/DOA for sharing their time and talents our teams, especially Lt Wang, SSgt Peterson, SSgt Clark, Lt Flores, Lt Sabado, SSgt Waldenville and TSgt Williams.

State round scores will be posted soon. At that time, it will be determined if any of the Stacey teams advanced to the semi-finals of the platinum tier. This would be a first in school history.  Good luck to all the teams!

“Scared Safe:” Parents and Families Preventing School Violence This conversational training targets parents, family members, and loved ones with students in K-12 schools to empower them in their ability to help in the mission to prevent targeted school violence. This raw and eye opening training addresses those factors about which parents must be aware that may signal a child is at risk for engaging in violence. Strategies as to how to have those challenging conversations with our children will be explored. Parents will be confronted with the pitfalls of overvaluation and labeling our youth as “special” to prevent the fostering of unhealthy esteem and narcissism that contributes to poor coping skills, entitlement, bullying, and in extreme cases, violence. Moreover, the training aims to dispel myths about what contributes to school violence and the hysteria of these incredibly rare events being perceived as an epidemic. Parents and families will leave feeling more equipped to engage threat assessment and violence prevention strategies in the home, the Mecca of first line defense for prevention.
