National School Counseling Week 2024, “School Counseling: Standards-Based, Student-Focused,” sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), was celebrated from Feb. 5–9, 2024, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

The special week honoring school counselors provides recognition for school counselors who “implement comprehensive school counseling programs, a vital part of the educational process for all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century."

Thank you to our amazing counselors at Lackland ISD!

JH Girls Basketball Team

This basketball season for our junior high girls’ team was absolutely outstanding. Our players showed incredible dedication and determination throughout, resulting in an undefeated record and a victory in the district tournament, crowning us as the champions. Throughout the entire tournament, Trinity Williams showcased unparalleled determination and sportsmanship, making her the undeniable MVP of our team. Ashlee Davee displayed unmatched tenacity and commitment on the court. With relentless defense, she consistently shut down opponents, making her our all-defensive player of the tournament. Additionally, it’s important to note that all our girls played exceptionally well and worked together cohesively throughout the tournament, contributing to our overall achievement. Their commitment to improving and their willingness to work together as a team were truly commendable. Witnessing their growth and development on the court was immensely gratifying as a coach. Each member of the team played a crucial role, and their collective effort and unity were key factors in our success. I couldn't be prouder of their accomplishments this season and I have no doubt that they will continue to achieve great things in the future.

Stacey Flashback: Aiyanna Casias

by: Morgan Wedewer, 9th grade

Aiyanna was here at Stacey nine years ago. She currently lives in North Dakota and works as a healthcare recruiter.

When did you go to Stacey?

I went to Stacey in 2012-2015.

What are some of your favorite memories of going to school here?

I really enjoyed the friends and connections I made at Stacey. It is a unique experience to be at such a small school and community. Some people I met became lifelong friends!

What was your favorite class while at Stacey?

My favorite class was English II with Ms. Gray. I remember loving her passion for teaching and how she made

assignments more interesting by allowing our creativity! My experience in her class inspired me to pursue teaching as a career.

Where did you go to college and what was your major?

I went to college at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English.

Where do you currently live?

I currently live on Grand Forks AFB, ND since my husband is now in the Air Force.

Where do you work?

I work remotely as a healthcare recruiter for hospitals.

I previously worked as a high school English teacher, but I took a step back from teaching with our recent PCS since there are limited opportunities in ND.

Are you still in contact with any of your former classmates?

Yes, I am still in contact with some old friends from Stacey! Meagan Fleming (Fritz), Hannah Eselgroth (Driver), and Michelle Hardrath to name a few!

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

If I could live anywhere, I would want to live internationally, maybe Germany or the UK.

Where have you all lived?

I have lived in Azusa, CA, Williams AZ, San Antonio,TX, Las Vegas, NV, and now Grand Forks, ND.

Do you have any advice for the current Stacey seniors?

The advice I would have for seniors today is to appreciate every moment. Your last year at Stacey will go by fast, so be kind and most importantly, enjoy time!

February Students of the Month

Isaiah Frias: “Isaiah is not only an exceptional student but also an individual who demonstrates great empathy towards his peers and the community at large. Throughout his time in my classroom, Isaiah consistently showed a genuine concern for others, always willing to go out of his way to support and assist his classmates. His ability to truly understand and connect with the emotions and experiences of those around him sets Isaiah apart as a remarkable individual. Isaiah is ALWAYS gentle and understanding.”

Evangeline Manning: “Evie is that student who is always doing the right thing, but more importantly, she is her classmates' keeper. She is a nurturer and is always paying attention to those around her. If someone is having a bad day, she is there to lift up their spirits. Everyone likes her because she treats everyone kind. She is a good listener when her peers speak and always displays a genuine concern if anyone gets hurt or having a stressful moment. She has shown this consistent behavior all year and that is why I feel she deserves this recognition.”
