Welcome Back!
*Aug. 31 - Sept. 4 - Remote Instruction Admin Alley Dear Parents/Guardians:
On Tuesday, August 25, 2020, the Lackland ISD Board of Trustees voted to extend the time period for remote instruction an additional four weeks beyond the first four weeks which was scheduled to end on September 11, 2020. For most of our students, this means that the first opportunity for face-to-face instruction would occur on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. The board did however direct the administration to begin phasing in some students for face-to-face instruction during the second four-week transition period as required by the Texas Education Agency. The board specifically asked that students with special needs and dependents of Essential Personnel be a part of the initial phase-in period.
The district has determined that the following categories of students will be eligible to participate in face-to-face instruction using the following phase-in schedule:
Phase I Week One (Beginning September 14, 2020): Students with special needs, Students of Essential Personnel, McKinney Vento (Homeless) Students, and Students in Foster Care. Week Two: Continue face-to-face instruction with students identified above
Phase 2 Week Three (Beginning September 28, 2020): Students identified in specific special programs. Week Four: Continue with face-to-face instruction with students identified in week one and three
Phase 3 Scheduled October 13, 2020 return for All students based on the instructional choice declaration.
We are requesting that each family complete the form found at this link: https://www.cognitoforms.com/LacklandISD1/LacklandISDReturnToFaceToFaceInstructionPhasesIAndII
The deadline for completion is 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.
This information will support our ability to identify students who are eligible to attend during each phase of student return to face to face instruction.
You will be notified of your eligibility to return by the following dates: Phase I: September 9, 2020, for September 14th return. Phase 2: September 23, 2020, for September 28th return. Phase 3: Notifications are not required. Parents of students without identified needs are reminded to complete the Lackland ISD Instructional Choice Declaration form at this link https://www.cognitoforms.com/LacklandISD1/LacklandISDInstructionalChoiceDeclaration by 6:00 p.m. today, Friday, August 28, 2020. Thus far, we have only received responses for about half of our student population.
Respectfully,
Dr. Burnie L. Roper Superintendent Around the District

Stacey Robotics is going strong and looking for new Team members!
For 3 years running, the Bots in Blue have made it to the UIL Texas State Championship and we are looking forward to making a run at State again this year!
All competitions will have either an all virtual format, or a traditional in-person format, or a combination of the two depending on local health conditions and school policy.
We also recognize the importance of encouraging our female students to participate in STEM activities so an all new, all female robotics team was approved and fully funded. The new team has a distinguished supporter in Air Force Major General Jeannie Leavitt who is currently the Director of Operations and Communications for the AETC. She also happens to be an Aerospace Engineer and was the first combat fighter pilot ever in the USAF. She was a technical advisor on the Captain Marvel movie helping Brie Larson learn what it takes to be the female fighter pilot "Captain Carol Danvers". Maj. Gen, has offered to lend her expertise and encouragement to our, yet unnamed, all-female robotics team.
If you would like to get a sense of the look of robotics competitions, check out this Virtual Reality tour put together by another supporter of our Robotics Program, Boeing: firstinspires.org/vr Or watch it here on youtube: here
The team is meeting virtually in Teams, for now, every Tuesday and Thursday. If you think you might be interested in participating, please email Mr. Kinsey at kinsey.k@lacklandisd.net

Microsoft Teams recently rolled out a new feature where Stacey Junior-Senior High School teachers and students can meet while appearing in a lecture hall setting. This gives them some sense of normalcy while virtual learning takes place during the first four weeks of school through Sept. 11.
