Boys Tennis

JHS Tennis-Boys

Eagle Pride runs high throughout the tennis program at Joplin High School. The 2008 boys' team boasts the first Joplin boys' state champion, John Lazenby. State level play in both single and doubles, and team district honors have been obtained in the past and will continue to be a goal for each season.

Tryouts & Practice
The boys’ tennis season is in the spring, beginning in late February. Boys and girls, 9-12th grade, may try out for their respective team.

The Varsity squad will consist of the top eight players who have successfully attended all try-out practices and competed in a team challenge tournament where each player is ranked according to his/her position on the challenge ladder. The rest of the players make up the JR. Varsity squad and must have attended all try-outs and completed the challenge tournament. Challenge matches to move up or down the ladder occur throughout the season. Team uniforms and warm-ups will be issued, with players furnishing their own racquets and shoes.

Matches
The season consists of 14 duals and 4 tournaments. Home matches are held on the tennis courts on the South end of the campus, at Joplin High School. We play all the teams in the Ozark Conference and travel to Springfield, Columbia, and Jefferson City for tournament play and other dual matches.

The boys’ team hosts the Joplin Boys Invitational in April. It has grown each year in strength of teams, and we hope to make it a Four State tournament to include teams from Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas.

Summer Camps
Team Camp and other activities are offered throughout the summer.
