Gifted and Talented Education
DESE gives the following description of gifted children:
In the State of Missouri, “gifted children” mean those who “exhibit precocious development of mental capacity and learning potential as determined by competent professional evaluation to the extent that continued educational growth and stimulation could best be served by an academic environment beyond that offered through a standard grade level curriculum.”
The following Gifted and Talented Education services are offered to students in grades 3-12.
- 150 minutes weekly of instruction in the GATE classroom for students grades 3-8 focusing on the affective needs of gifted students, critical thinking, research, and creativity.
- Daily Tribe Time meeting at the High School with students grades 9-12 focusing on the affective needs of gifted students, ACT practice, and college and career planning support.
