Automotive Repairer

Galway Central School has a vacancy for a full-time permanent Automotive Repairer. This is a CSEA position, $22/hour with great benefits. 

Successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of standard automotive repair methods, terminology and tools of the trade. Candidate must be able to follow directions and pay careful attention to detail. Candidate will have demonstrated ability to make difficult repairs to heavy automotive and other mechanical equipment. Candidate will possess or be willing to obtain a valid class B CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF CLASS: 
This is skilled work involving responsibility for the overhaul and repair of a wide variety of automotive equipment and machinery. The work requires a thorough knowledge of the automotive repair trade. General instructions are received regarding tasks to be performed, but considerable leeway is permitted in planning the details of each assignment. Supervision may be exercised over the work of Automotive Services worker or other assistants. Does related work as required. 

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only) 
•  Makes skilled repairs to gasoline and diesel motor equipment, including trucks, tractors, and buses
•  Repairs and replaces motors, pumps, fuel pumps, generators, carburetors, and shock absorbers 
•  Repairs ignition systems, transmissions, brake systems, clutches and front and rear axles 
•  Adjusts steering mechanisms and aligns wheels 
•  Makes minor welding repairs to automotive equipment 
•  Tunes engine and sets timing 
•  Attaches and removes snow plow blades and other auxiliary equipment 
•  May operate a school bus on an assigned route

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
•  Thorough knowledge of standard automotive repair methods and of the terminology and tools of the trade
•  Demonstrated ability to make difficult repairs to heavy automotive and other mechanical equipment
•  Familiarity with welding techniques
•  Ability to lead and specifications and to follow rough draft sketches and oral instructions
•  Good motor and hand and eye coordination
•  Manual dexterity
•  Good physical condition

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years full time experience as a skilled automotive repairer. 

NOTE:
If the position involves the operation of a school bus; the candidate must possess and maintain the appropriate CDL with endorsements issued by the New York State Department of Motor vehicles at time of appointment.
