Virtual Visit from Best Selling Author
Posted on 02/12/2021
Galway fifth graders enjoyed a virtual visit from New York Times and USA Today Best Selling Author Tui T. Sutherland. Sutherland has written over 50 books including the Wings Of Fire series, the Menagerie trilogy, and the Pet Trouble series. She is also a contributing author to the bestselling Spirit Animals and Seekers series (as part of the Erin Hunter team).
Students learned about Sutherland's inspiration for many of the settings and characters in the Wings Of Fire books. She talked about how she researches certain topics and uses personal experiences to create the complex and fascinating world in which the dragons live. She also spoke about how she got into writing and introduced everyone to her pup - Rainbow dog. During the second part of the visit, Sutherland answered lots of great questions from our students.
Many thanks to the Galway PTSA for arranging this visit, which was originally scheduled to take place during the Spring 2020 Book Fair.
Sutherland's visit, along with an autographed copy of her latest Wings Of Fire book for every fifth grader, was made possible with prize money from the Galway PTSA Fall 2019 Book Fair (our 5th consecutive Book Fair to win a National Award). Sutherland was only offering six talks to Scholastic Book Fairs throughout the country, so we were very excited that Galway PTSA could give our students this opportunity.
