Early this morning, Elmira H.S., the Elmira Community and the family of Kyle Smith, received tragic news that he had passed away. Kyle was a graduate of EHS in 2012. He was an outstanding kid, an outstanding athlete and was growing into an outstanding, young man. Kyle attended Portland State University where he played football and was majoring in business. This devastating news has been hard on staff and students and will be for some time to come. This type of news affects people differently. Parents should be prepared to discuss this with their students tonight and offer support as needed. The school has a room today, staffed with counselors and staff members, to assist with these difficult emotions and feelings. We ask that you please keep the Smith family in your thoughts as they grieve this unimaginable loss of a son, brother, nephew, uncle and grandson, as well as a friend to many.
