The Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD) recently held elections for three open seats on the governing board. The district is pleased to announce that Carolyn Kidd, Melissa Kirk, and Kortney Zesiger have been elected as the newest members of the governing board. Their four-year terms will begin in January 2025 and conclude on December 31, 2028. Each brings a diverse set of experiences and perspectives that will help shape the future of the district.

In addition to the newly elected members, Aaron Cirzan has been elected to fulfill the two-year term through December 2026. Erik Sather will continue his service as an appointed member of the governing board, with his term extending through December 2026. His leadership and dedication will provide valuable continuity as the district navigates upcoming opportunities and challenges.

The district would also like to express its gratitude to the outgoing governing board members—Christine Fredericks, Carole Gilmore, and Dorothy Denetsosie Gishie—whose terms will end on December 31, 2024. Their years of dedicated service have had a profound impact on FUSD, and their contributions have been instrumental in advancing the district’s mission.

Recognition is also due to all the candidates who participated in this election. Their willingness to step forward and serve demonstrates a deep commitment to public education and the Flagstaff community.

The newly elected and continuing members of the governing board will play a critical role in supporting the district’s vision and ensuring a positive educational experience for all students. Coconino County Superintendent Cheryl Mango-Paget will administer the Oath of Office for the new governing board members on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 1 p.m. in the FUSD Governing Board Room. The first meeting of the newly seated governing board will take place in January 2025.
