Flagstaff High School Cross Country Makes History

The Flagstaff High School cross country teams achieved a historic milestone at the 2024 state championships, sweeping both the boys’ and girls’ Division II titles. A special congratulations to Olivia Baker and Alex Bland for their outstanding individual victories and to Coach Trina Painter for leading the teams to this remarkable accomplishment. Your hard work and dedication have made Flagstaff proud—way to go, Eagles!

Flagstaff, Coconino Mountain Biking Teams Shine at State

A huge congratulations to the Flagstaff High School Mountain Biking team for clinching their fourth consecutive state title at the Arizona Cycling Association Division I championship. This outstanding achievement reflects their dedication and consistency over the years. Special applause goes to Nora Kruse and Isaac Cole for their first-place finishes in the girls’ and boys’ varsity races, as well as Keegan Field for securing third place.

Let us also celebrate the Coconino High School Mountain Biking team’s stellar performance at the state championships. Special recognition to Phineas Shroufe, the JV1 State Champion—an incredible accomplishment! Kudos, as well, to Ethan Rasmussen for finishing 3rd in JV1 and Ellie Scott for placing 4th in JV2.

Both teams have demonstrated remarkable commitment and sportsmanship. Way to go, Flagstaff and Coconino High School bikers!

Historic Flag Football Season for Coconino and Flagstaff

The Coconino Panthers and Flagstaff Eagles wrapped up remarkable seasons, cementing their status as flag football trailblazers in northern Arizona.

The Coconino Panthers had an outstanding season, finishing with a 12-4 record and earning the No. 6 seed in the 4A State Tournament. After an impressive 38-0 victory over Westview in the quarterfinals, the Panthers advanced to the semifinals, where they narrowly fell to Prescott in a thrilling 28-21 matchup. Key performances from standout players like Blanca Ventura Gomez and Lucy Stiegler, both nominees for the Arizona High School Girls Flag Football Player of the Year Award, helped propel the team to success. Senior Wylan Smith was also honored as the Arizona Daily Sun’s Flag Football Athlete of the Year, indicating her leadership and impact on the field.

Flagstaff High School, established in 2023 as northern Arizona’s first flag football team, continued to make waves in the 4A Mountain Sky Conference. The Eagles earned the No. 13 seed in the state tournament and competed fiercely in the first round against Heritage Laveen, showcasing their resilience and competitive spirit. Their program, now in its second year, has set a strong foundation for continued growth and success.

Congratulations to both teams for their remarkable achievements and for representing FUSD with pride, determination, and sportsmanship. Your efforts have inspired the community and set a high bar for the future of flag football in northern Arizona.

Flagstaff High School Swimmers Shine at State

A huge congratulations to our incredible Flagstaff High School swimmers for their remarkable achievements at the state championships! Special recognition goes to Abbie Miller and Victoria Core for their standout performances, as well as the entire Eagles swim team for their dedication and success in the pool.

FHS Volleyball Completes a Remarkable Season

The Flagstaff High School Eagles volleyball team had an incredible season, finishing with an outstanding 18-1 record, including an undefeated regular season. As the top seed in the state tournament, the Eagles advanced to the quarterfinals, where they faced a strong opponent in Saguaro.

While their season ended earlier than hoped, the Eagles demonstrated skill, determination, and resilience throughout the year. Led by Coach Beth Haglin, who was named Grand Canyon Region Coach of the Year, the team achieved significant milestones. Junior Lillian Hartman earned Region Player of the Year, and senior Macie Moseng was recognized as Offensive Player of the Year, with several players receiving regional honors.

The Eagles’ success this season was built on teamwork, hard work, and a commitment to excellence. Congratulations to the team, coaches, and seniors for representing Flagstaff High School and FUSD with pride and achieving such remarkable success!

Coconino, Flagstaff Football

Congratulations to both the Coconino High School Panthers and Flagstaff High School Eagles for their dedication and hard work this season, culminating in an exciting Crosstown Rivalry game. Both teams finished strong with impressive 6-4 records, showcasing the passion and commitment of FUSD student-athletes, coaches, and support staff.

The Panthers’ season extended into the 4A State Tournament, marking their second consecutive postseason appearance. While their run ended with a tough matchup against Mica Mountain, senior quarterback Colton Buckingham and running back Fernando Ramirez led an impressive offense that kept fans cheering throughout the year.

A special shoutout goes to senior Noble Young-Blackgoat, who was named the Arizona Daily Sun’s 2024 Football Athlete of the Year. His leadership as a safety, wide receiver, and special teams player was instrumental to the team’s success, earning him all-league honors two years in a row.

Thank you, Panthers and Eagles, for representing FUSD with pride, sportsmanship, and determination. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for these incredible student-athletes.

A Season of Growth and Achievement for Golf Teams

Congratulations to the Coconino High School Girls Golf team for a remarkable season and individual successes at the State Championships! Jada Dickson, a senior, shot 89-81 to finish 31st, while sophomore Jazmin Boyce shot 92-86, earning a 49th-place finish in Division II competition. Their hard work and dedication capped off an impressive year for the program.

The Coconino Boys Golf team also had a strong season, finishing third in the Section 7 Championship, narrowly missing a team appearance at the state tournament. Meanwhile, the girls’ team finished second in their section and proudly sent two individual qualifiers to Tucson, representing the only girls’ high school golf program in the area.

The Flagstaff High School Boys Golf team also impressed this season, finishing 4th overall in their section and earning a final Division II ranking of 20th out of 84 schools. Payne Lowry led the Eagles with a 20th-place individual finish, narrowly missing a state qualification by just two seeds.

Coconino Cheer Shines at Regionals

Congratulations to the Coconino High School Cheer Team for an outstanding performance at the USA Regionals, where they took first place and secured a spot at the National Championships! This incredible achievement highlights the hard work, dedication, and talent of these student-athletes and their coaches.
