11/19/24 | A Message from our Superintendent

November 19, 2024
Giving thanks is a longstanding, central tradition among Indigenous peoples that is still practiced today. I am especially grateful for the incredible honor to serve alongside so many dedicated, and compassionate educators within the Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD) who help our students and school communities thrive. But we could not do this amazing work alone without the partnership and support of our families and communities. As we approach the holiday season, I invite you to give your “wrapped presents” of gratitude to those who deserve and need them. To express our gratitude to the dedicated educators who shape young minds, let’s take action:
- Handwritten thank you notes: A heartfelt note expressing gratitude to a teacher, bus driver, or custodian can make a significant impact.
- Verbal appreciation: Take a moment to thank a principal, office assistant, or food service staff in person or through a phone call or email.
- Volunteer in classrooms: Offer assistance with classroom activities, field trips, or special events, or share your skills on FUSD’s CommunityShare platform (https://www.communityshare.org/flagstaff/).
- Donate school supplies: Contribute to the FUSD Foundation’s Teacher’s Closet or donate directly to the school.
- Support school initiatives: Attend board meetings, volunteer for fundraising events, or advocate for increased education funding.
- Positive social media posts: Share positive experiences about FUSD schools and events on social media.
- Collaborate with local businesses: Partner with local businesses to offer discounts or special deals to educators.
- Organize community events: Host community events that benefit schools, such as fun runs or charity auctions.
By expressing gratitude, we not only uplift others but also enrich our own lives. Let’s make this a season of gratitude and appreciation.
