Dear Fairport community,

The Fairport Board of Education approved the District’s proposed 2023-2024 school budget at its business meeting on April 18, 2023.

You can find the budget adoption presentation linked here.

The 2023-2024 proposed budget is closely aligned to the Board of Education’s objectives and District goals for investing in our Future-Ready Raiders:

  • Prioritizing equitable access to:

    • Managing District reserves relative to potential future General Fund costs associated with the expiration of Federal Stimulus dollars

The $151,722,002 total budget equates to a 5.31% increase over last year’s budget, and is in compliance with the Property Tax Levy Limit, which limits the amount of taxes an entity may levy based on a formula. That Tax Levy Limit may be higher or lower than 2%, depending on allowable adjustments or exemptions. The estimated tax rate is a projected $24.24 per $1,000 of assessed value, a 2.98% increase. For more information, please view the Budget Presentation to the Board and/or the video recording of the April 18 Board of Education meeting.

The annual Budget Vote is on Tues., May 16, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Johanna Perrin Middle School.

Items on the ballot for the May 16 vote include:

  • The proposed 2023-2024 ($151,722,002) school budget
  • The election of three Board of Education members
  • Proposed 2023-24 Public Library budget
  • One Public Library trustee

If you would like to learn more about the 2023-24 budget, join us at the Public Hearing on Tuesday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. in room 512 at FHS. The Public Hearing will also be broadcast live on the District’s Youtube

Stay tuned for a comprehensive review of the 2023-2024 budget proposal in the upcoming Commentator newsletter, which will be mailed to Fairport residents in early May.

Thank you for your continued support of the Fairport Central School District and our mission to support, affirm and prepare generations of Future-Ready Raiders.

Dear Fairport families,

This weekend we honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his profound impact on the conscience of our country. His determination in the face of injustice and his compassion for his fellow citizens remain a beacon of hope to this day. In 1964, he addressed the graduating students at Springfield College:

“And so we must…realize that the time is always right to do right. And so you go out into communities, all over this nation, with a great problem. And I would urge you to be involved participants, and not detached spectators. And never rest, never be content, until in your life and in the situation in which you live, you have established the principle of the ‘Brotherhood of Man.’” “Springfield College Commencement Address,” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., 1964

As we navigate a world that can sometimes feel like it’s pulled apart at the seams, I am comforted by the fact that the Fairport values of Compassion, Awareness, Respect and Embracing Differences echo Dr. King’s call: we urge our students to reach beyond themselves and to recognize and uplift those around them.

In the spirit of Dr. King, Fairport is proud to participate in the National Day of Racial Healing on January 17. I encourage you to learn more about and attend the activities and opportunities the District is hosting in the coming week focused on racial healing and action.

Thank you for your continued support of the students and staff of the Fairport Central School District. It remains that in times of challenge and division, and in times of celebration and joy, we are always better together.

Yours in appreciation,

Brett Provenzano

Superintendent of Schools

There are two more public informational meetings scheduled, with the possibility of adding more. Both sessions will be held at Fairport High School in Room 512, which is accessible through Door 45 at FHS:
