Students at Northside, Dudley, Brooks Hill and Jefferson Avenue collected donations at school and online this past October as part of the annual Fall Crawl. Rochester company Crazy Dog T-Shirts generously donated 100% of the money raised by the sale of Fall Crawl “Make a Difference” t-shirts to Golisano Children’s Hospital.

FCSD was proud to partner once again with Crazy Dog and with the team at Golisano Children’s Hospital to help raise funds – and hope – for families and children facing health challenges.

It’s close to 3 p.m. on a sunny Thursday in November. Brooks Hill families are waiting in the pick-up line, ready to greet their students – but the day’s duties are not quite finished. Members of the school’s new Raiders on Patrol and Honor Guard team line up at the flagpole to assist in the school’s daily flag-lowering ceremony. Under the guidance of School Guardian Todd Frank, a Master Sergeant with the Air National Guard, the students remove the flag, fold it and secure the flagpole halyard.

Fifth-grade students selected to join the Brooks Hill Raiders on Patrol are assigned posts around the school during arrival and dismissal, and assist in keeping other students safe and aware of their surroundings during the busiest times of day. Students rotate their post assignments under the guidance of Brooks Hill Health Teacher Vicki Cappotelli and Mr. Frank.

Raiders on Patrol have the opportunity to be selected for the Honor Guard, which is responsible for the respectful raising, lowering and storage of the American flag each day.

“It has been a privilege watching our Raiders on Patrol who have been selected to serve as our Honor Guard at Brooks Hill,” said Cappotelli. “They have learned that honoring the American flag is an essential practice that demonstrates respect for the country’s history and values.”

Said Mr. Frank, “[T]he Safety Patrol Honor Guard Team is proud to participate daily in the time honored tradition of the folding of our American flag”.

The students serving on the Honor Guard on that sunny November Thursday said they enjoy their part in the special assignment, and that being part of the Raiders on Patrol gives them a strong sense of belonging and leadership. They hope to continue their responsibilities when they move into middle school.

Please join us on November 13 from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. at Minerva DeLand School for The State of Our Students: Prevention and Intervention of At-Risk Behaviors.

Our presenters will discuss:

  • Fairport’s results in the county-wide Youth Risk Behavior Survey and what we have learned about how our students think and feel about risky behaviors with Liz Russell, LMSW, Fairport’s Substance Abuse Prevention Social Worker
  • What are the top trends right now in adolescent substance use and abuse, by Sgt. Phil Genier of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office
  • What treatment and resources are available to families, outlined by Leah Hill, CASAC, from URMC Adolescent Young Adult Chemical Dependency

We welcome families to be active participants in their students’ wellbeing, safety and health. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to join us to learn more about The State of Our Students and how we can help make our Fairport families safer and stronger together.

Dear Fairport community,

You have a chance tomorrow, October 12, to cast your vote on the Fairport for the Future 2023 Capital Improvement Project! Please make your voice heard as we work together for a better, brighter future for our Fairport students. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Johanna Perrin Middle School.

REMEMBER – you will see two propositions on the ballot tomorrow: Proposition 1 and Proposition 2. You can find the full language of the two propositions linked here.

Proposition 1 –

– NO ADDITIONAL TAX IMPACT TO RESIDENTS WITH THE USE OF EXISTING CAPITAL BUILDING RESERVES

– Create modern, flexible learning environments at Fairport High School to comfortably absorb ninth grade and support the District’s comprehensive programming

Proposition 2 –

– TAX IMPACT OF $39 PER YEAR OVER 15 YEARS FOR A HOME VALUED AT $200,000 AFTER USE OF EXISTING CAPITAL RESERVES

– Update and modernize the FHS track and field to improve student athletic experience and create modern, safe facility for competition and community use

Voters have the choice to vote either “yes” or “no” on both Proposition 1 and Proposition 2. The enactment of Proposition 2 (track and field renovations) is dependent on the passage of Proposition 1 (updating Fairport High School). If Proposition 1 is not passed, Proposition 2 will not be enacted, regardless of whether it passed on its own or did not pass.

Please visit our Capital Project website to learn more about the Fairport for the Future 2023 Capital Improvement Project, and I hope to see you at the polls!

Sincerely,

Brett Provenzano

Superintendent of Schools
