Write Like This: Teaching Real-World Writing Through Modeling and Mentor Texts

I highly recommend this text to inform your writing instruction.  Gallagher emphasizes the use of mentor texts as a way of modeling effective writing.  The more students read mentor texts the more they feel confident emulating those techniques in their own writing.
