Panther Pitch
Dear Panther Partners:
As your superintendent, I am proud of our schools, curious learners, committed staff, and thankful for the support of our community. I hope I have communicated and modeled my core belief that schools represent and belong to the people and the community. They are not my schools, they are our schools. I am honored to be your superintendent and my work reflects our common values of creating a safe learning environment for children, engaging relationships, quality instruction, and high student achievement.
At my recent community coffee I introduced myself to a mother and her son. The mother told her son (guessing he was fifth or sixth grader) this is our superintendent. The boy said what does he do (I can hear your silent chuckles)? The mother responded in a general manner that he runs the school and with curiosity her son generalized a response that indicated I was the boss. I smiled and said, I don’t run the schools, the people, your mom, and our community run our schools. The child said so you have many bosses, why? I said because schools belong to the people and I am asked to help lead them. This experience really frames the role the community has in successful schools and my role as your superintendent. Our schools are important and the support of our community is critical to the success of our children. It takes all of us to support the vision of the district “to provide the foundation for students to become lifelong learners and positive, confident and compassionate citizens.”
Congratulations to Amanda Mohr, Sharon Snodgrass, and Galen Zumbach for being elected to the school board. Stay informed of district news and activities by visiting the district web page and following us on social media (Facebook & Twitter). I invite you to please join me at my monthly community coffees, which are typically held the third Wednesday of each month from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at a local coffee shop. The next Community Coffee is at Hy-Vee on December 15 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Stop in, say hi and get a free coffee or a dollar discount courtesy of me. Thank you for your support of our schools and making them the PRIDE of our community!
