Sherlock community celebrates loved ones with Day of the Dead program

For the past several years, students, staff and families from Sherlock Elementary School have come together throughout the month of October to set up a special altar inside the school's cafeteria for a Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, celebration.

In an effort to unite as a community and remember loved ones who have passed on, while celebrating Hispanic culture as well, dozens from Sherlock decorated an altar with LED votives, framed photos of family members, candy skulls and flowers, all in preparation for a school-wide event after school.

Yesterday, Sherlock hosted its annual Dia de los Muertos family program, complete with mariachi performers, Mexican folkloric dancers, family games and time to stop by the altar and pay respects for the deceased.
