Dear Cicero District 99 Families and Staff,
Over the past several weeks, Cicero District 99 administrators and staff have been working hard to prepare classrooms and school buildings for the return of students and the start of another exciting school year. Everyone is looking forward to starting the new year on a positive note and we are eager to begin another year of learning and fun.
Unfortunately, the National Weather Service has alerted communities and school districts across the Chicagoland area about concerning weather this week, with an Excessive Heat Watch in effect for the region. Specifically, meteorologists are predicting that the heat and humidity on Wednesday and Thursday may make it feel between 105 to 115 degrees outside.
In addition, due to mechanical issues impacting air conditioning at several of our schools, there is a possibility that the District will make the call for emergency days or e-learning days to be used for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.
Please note — the use of emergency days means that missed school days will need to be made up at the end of the academic year, slightly adjusting the District’s schedule as originally set.
Please note — the use of e-learning days are not made up at the end of the academic year and may not be applied to the entire district.
The District will share a final decision by 12 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, Aug. 22, on whether Wednesday, Aug. 23 through Friday, Aug. 25 will be declared emergency days, e-learning days or school will be in session. Information will be posted on the District website and social media, along with sent to families via email and text message. We hope to inform families and staff of the District’s pending plans so that contingency planning and last-minute childcare arrangements can be made.
Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time and we apologize for any inconvenience this change in scheduling may cause.
Sincerely,
Dr. Aldo Calderin
Superintendent
Cicero District 99
