D99's Very Own: Miriam Caballero

"The proof is in the pudding — [Caballero] definitely gets very good results, and students end up leaving her third-grade classroom with a ton of growth because they've had the opportunity to be in her classroom." -Robert Mensch, principal of Liberty Elementary School

Born in Durango, Mexico, Miriam Caballero immigrated to the U.S. as a child. But, thanks to the encouragement provided by an inspiring childhood teacher and a full-ride college scholarship, Caballero has passionately dedicated nearly 20 years  to teaching students in Cicero — students whom she fondly sees a reflection of her younger self in.

For her selfless service to the District and its families, Caballero was recognized at this week's Board of Education meeting as D99's Very Own.
